Hey everyone , I been doing well about drinking water and crystal light but I like coke and sprite very well.I'm just wanting to lose around 10 pounds and not sure I can give up my re gular pop , think it's still okay to drink just 1 or 2 a day?Don't really feel I should have to quit drinking what I like plus I still am pretty thin , it will just cause me to go over cause I don't like watching what I eat either , it's not fair , anyone think pop is still okay long as im working out like I should?Any input on this means alot , I am just wondering cause I see lots of thin people drink regular soda so it seems fine.

Hi, I hear you on the pop thing. I havent' had any type of pop since January, and it's STILL is a huge craving for me. Have you ever thought of just buying the 2 liters of pop and having half the amount you would in a can? I am a recovering coca cola, Dr. Pepper Cherry and Wild Cherry pepsi addict. My name is Jessica! JK0

I think the whole Soda is bad thing comes on behalf of those who are seeking to change their lifestyle and those who have health issues/concerns...
I think if you personally like to consume soda, go ahead if its what you prefer, just keep in mind that soda is full of chemicals and sugars.
For me personally, I have tried to cut out soda (even diet) altogether. I actually prefer diet soda (an no it isn't because I am trying to lose weight, I have always preferred it). I have been trying to consume more water and believe that my skin looks better and generally I feel better sticking with water.
Just my 2 cents....0 -
If you cut out all regular & diet pop I can almost guarantee that in a couple months you will lose those 10lbs.
Sodas are full of sugar & artificial sugar, both trick your body into gaining weight.0 -

Yes you will! I am actually down 25lbs, but the 18 are from when I joined the gym and started watching my caloric intake. I lost 7 lbs almost instantly when I cut out pop.0 -
ok here lately the only times I been drinking pop is when I go to the movies or when I go out to a good dinner but if im at home usually don't drink any , just so nasty to me to drink water at the movies with good popcorn , lol0

You can do it! Try giving it up...
My sister in law gave up regular pop and lost 10 lbs quite quickly... The pop may be the thing holding back your weight loss.
Good luck!0 -
2 cans of coke a day is 300 calories a day. I'm assuming you're restricting calories to lose weight. Soda, really starts to crunch into your daily calories...0
-
simple.
1 can of coke a day for a year is 52,925 calories.
if you have 2 cans that is 105,850 calories.
if 3500 calories is 1 pound (mayo clinic) that is 16.5 or 33 pounds a year...in soda.0 -

This is completely out of context and is only relevant if those calories are in excess of her TDEE.
If you enjoy it, don’t cut it out completely, but they are empty calories so you may want to restrict it; it sounds like you are already doing that. If you are hitting your calorie requirements and macro requirements, don’t worry about it.0 -
Don't give up completely, have one while you are out for a nice dinner, or in the movie (not 2). But try not to drink regularly, like daily.
Pop is not only bad for your waistline, it also have other healthy hazard. Such as drinking a lot will strip calcium off your bone (nasty...). And when your body cannot handle the extra calcium, you'll potentially have kidney stones. This is exactly what happen to my father-in-law.
I've stop drinking it since I'm on MFP, even our company provide free pops, now I really have no desire to drink it. Once awhile I'll drink in a party, but only can handle half (or not even) of the can.
Also, try to get the small can if you can. So instead of 12oz, get a 8oz version. Good luck0 -
I'm all about moderation. Maybe limit your pop to one can, twice a week. So say, on Friday night have a coke. And once over the weekend. But not every day.0

This is my take: Let the regular soda be your "treat" and when you allow yourself to have a coke or sprite make sure you drink that much more water. So like if you drink a 12 oz can of Coke at the movies make sure you drink 12oz of water when you get home. I can't give up Diet Coke, I've tried and it's just a disaster! So I have 1-2 a day and make sure I get enough water still. I think it's fine if your not drinking like a 2 liter of Mt. Dew a day ya know!?0 -

completely true about the calories. but there is also the aspect of a can of soda having about 39 grams of sugar. over a year that makes almost 3,600 teaspoons of sugar added to your diet with just one can a day. that is a LOT of sugar.
sorry but this is a bit of a sensitive subject in our household. my husband used to drink 4-6 cans of soda a day until he saw a concrete representation of the sugar and calories. i am just trying to put the craving in perspective. make sure the things you want are what you really want and are worth it.
now were you to say have one once a week as a treat it would be completely different.
edited - i realized i had enter info for 1 serving not a full can0 -

ANYTHING is fine in moderation. If you like it and it's not making u obese or your teeth aren't falling out; then GO FOR IT!
You know what your body can take.
Life is short and you might as well enjoy it.0 -

Oh, I am not saying it is good. We don’t drink pop in our house either. I had one like a month ago and that was the first I had had in several months. My point is that dietary restrictions can cause stress for some people and stress can inhibit fat loss or lead to weight gain. If you can control cravings vs eliminate foods, you are better off in the long run.0 -
I really like diet pepsi also. But i have restricted it to 1 per day. Have you tried Vitamin water zero or diet snapple? They helped me break my habit. There is a lot of research about excessive soda drinking and alcohol for that matter causing major stomach issues and even leading to cancer. There might be more at stake here other than weight loss. It is also a health issue. I like the idea of having it only at movies too!0

ohyeah I like diet snapple , crystal light all that kinda stuff just saying pop is good too but I don't drink it to often anymore , just crave it alot0

ok well another question I have , I hear people say time to excercise to burn off that food well I guess soda gets burned off as well as food to right so I guess thats why you should log it as well?0
-
In the least, anything that has calories should be logged.0
