I just found out that I am newly pregnant and I want to lose weight badly, so I am ready for what is to come.
I am going to start walking and maybe go on the eliptical, but I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas as I have to keep my heart rate down.

Its really not safe to try and lose weight when you are pregnant. You should just try to eat healthy and elimanate some of the weight you could potentially gain instead. If you lose weight it could be unhealthy for your baby!0

Consult your doctor and/or dietitian. Since you're carrying a baby, I wouldn't risk doing anything weird....0
-
just try to eat nutritionally and take care of yourself. weight loss can wait until after the baby comes,,,0

when I was pregnant what made me lose weight during the end of my pregnancy when you shouldn't be losing was being on the diabetics diet as I had g.d. I was dropping weight really fast then and surprisingly only gained 15lbs my full pregnancy because of the end weight loss, mind you I gained it all back after my daughter0

Ok, when you're pregnant, your ultimate goal is weight gain, not weight loss. You need to as your body carries a developing baby and adjusts everything else in order to support you and the baby. Being active is good, but please, don't try to lose weight. A woman of average weight before pregnancy should gain 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy. Underweight women should gain 28-40 pounds during pregnancy. Overweight women may need to gain only 15-25 pounds during pregnancy. Your doctor may recommend more or less depending on your unique situation, but be sure to check with them!0

Now is not the time to try to lose weight-it isn't healthy for you or baby!
Just eat a healthy, well balanced diet and worry about the weightloss after you deliver. Congrats!!0 -
Talk to your doctor. You and he can come up with a plan that is good for you and your baby! I would follow your doctor's advice.
While in general, it is true that losing weight while pregnant is not a good idea, I would trust your doctor's opinions on how to move forward with this as no one here really knows your situation as well.
Congratulations!0 -
i agree. I have two babies (15 month and 2 month) the best way is to eat healthy and keep up exercise even if its just walking. If you lose a little than thats great but the goal shouldnt be to lose weight it should be to be healthy for you and your baby. No matter what the baby is gonna add a few lbs. exercise will help with delivery and help you get back to normal sooner afterwords, but consult your doctor about certain workouts.0

Talk to your doctor. Your hr shouldn't go above 140 if you're not used to exercise, eat healthy, don't eat too few calories, you have to feed your baby too, just eat healthy. Doctors will suggest weight loss during pregnancy in only a few extreme cases. Be safe!0

dieting for weight loss and pregnancy is flat out not smart.
you should only be losing weight if you're tossing your cookies every five minutes from morning sickness.0 -
During my second pregnancy I started overweight. So I did light exercise and ate healthy. During the first 7-8 months I maintained my weight and in the end only put on 14 pounds for the pregnancy. Check with your OB/GYN regarding what exercising is ok for you and what calorie intake you need to have and go from there. This is totally doable! Good luck!0

Just a suggestion: Although I understand where you are coming from, it would be wise to consume enough calories to "maintain" your weight now and ensure the new baby receives enough nutrients and nourishment. Otherwise you could run into pregnancy complications and/or severely low birth weight. Wait until you have the baby and get back on track for weight loss. Focus on that little blessing for now
*Congrats on the new baby.0 -
its sad, but you cant. i had to gain 60 lbs with my daughter. best you can do to keep your shape while feeding your baby is to do yoga and low impact arobics. the eliptical, jogging, jumping jacks, all are dangerous to the baby, anything that can shake them loose. swimming is probably the best form cause you feel weightless0

Another vote for talking to your doctor. For most women it's not advisable to lose weight during pregnancy, and any new exercise or weight loss needs to be discussed with a health care professional if you want to avoid injury to yourself and your baby.0

Walking or riding a stationary bike are both exercises that are recommended while pregnant (at least from my doctor) if you alter your diet to make it include fruits, veggies, healthy proteins and cut out all the junk you will lose without really trying because your body is burning calories to make the baby. Losing a significant amount of weight while pregnant is NOT recommeded but you should talk to your doctor.. I was on the Gestational Diabetes diet while pregnant (even though I wasn't fully diabetic) and it helped me lose a little and I only gained 15 the entire pregnancy.0

And I'm in a bad mood. That sounded harsh. Congratulations on the baby - sincerely. But lose weight in roughly 40 weeks, not now0

First of all, DO NOT try to lose weight while you are pregnant, it's bad for both you and the baby.
1st trimester - Set your goal to maintenance
2nd trimester - increase about 200
3nd trimester - increase about 300
breastfeeding - increase to about 500
Keep workout is great! Listen to your body while workout, if you are feeling ok you are good. If you cannot talk while working out, you are pushing too hard. Keep drinking water.
Try to search "pregnant" on the board, a good support group for people are pregnant and want to keep fit, check out this post:

Congrats and good luck.0 -
Now is not the time to lose weight. You need to think of the baby and wait until after for any kind of weight loss plan. However, that doesn't mean you can't eat healthy and exercise. You can ask your doctor about safe exercises to do and even ask him/her for nutritional advice. Congrats!!0
-
Don't worry about losing weight right now. Eat healthy! You want to make sure you eat enough nutrients for your little one growing inside of you. Don't give in to junk foods and you'll be okay0

*sighs**
You eat healthy and worry about your baby......you will still have weight to lose after anyways.....focous on the miracle inside you....its the most important thing0 -

yes, this!0 -
Talk to your Doctor, every woman is different. My friend was told she should eat healthy and NOT gain, and if she lost weight while she was pregnant she nor the baby would be in any trouble. It just depends, but DEFINITELY talk to your doctor!0

Your baby needs calories and nutrients to grow optimally. Please consult your OB before doing anything. Maybe ask to be referred to a nutritionist. Consider taking a good prenatal vitamin.0

At the risk of sounding like a broken record you should not attempt to lose weight while pregnant. However, you can certainly exercise and eat right to minimize you weight gain. I exercised throughout my second pregnancy and gained under 25lbs. I also feel that the exercise help with my endurance which I needed when the little booger quickly and did not give me a chance for a epi.
I mostly walked, rode a stationary bike and used the elliptical. But of course always check with your doctor and a HRM is a good investment for pregnancy exercise and the best part is that you can use it forever....unlike all the other stuff you gotta buy while pregnant.0 -
Hey....Congrats....I'm trying to have a baby...and am trying to lose weight....I was told once I get pregnant....I need to stop trying to lose weight and just eat as healthy as I can....and still exercise....but not vigorously.
Apparently losing weight isn't good for the baby0 -

AGREED!!!0 -
You definitely don't want to lose weight - you must get out of that mentality. Gaining weight is healthy for the baby.
Consult your doctor for the amount of weight they would like you to gain for this pregnancy. Mine instructed me to eat approximately 300 extra calories/day.0 -

Please tell me you are not serious in asking this question. I know weight loss is something all of us are working hard at and we need suggestions and support for others but really????? REALLY????0 -
