Should I worry about the cholesterol in Lean Meats, It seems that eating around 12oz of lean meat like chicken, turkey, or even lean beef really jacks my cholesterol up for the day. This is my personal preference for getting my protein, but should it concern me when i go over on daily cholesterol from lean meats?

The cholesterol in food doesn't translate immediately to cholesterol in your body. This is something you don't generally have to be super worried about unless you already have cholesterol issues. If you do have cholesterol issues then you should ask your doctor first :)

Cholesterol in meat does not equal high cholesterol in you. Hundreds of scientific studies show that animal based cholesterol (i.e. from meat, eggs, milk, etc.) does not lead to an increase in serum cholesterol.

Don't worry about it. Get your lipids checked once a year and unless they're high, you're doing everything right.
  • Also if you are concerned about Cardio Health related to Cholesterol levels, you can always take Fish Oil Supplements, B12 and Niacin supplements. I have a conditions PCOS which causes me to have High Triglycerides and those pill my dr put me on help regardless of what my daily cholesterol intake is.

My cholesterol number on MFP is toasted after my 4 eggs in the morning.
