Stretching Poll

I think so many runners would scream at me if they found out that I don't usually make solid efforts to stretch after I run. It won't work for a lot of people, but it works for me. I'm not unflexible either and I get a little aches but have really only had acute injuries for any period of time. And since I've been running marathons since 2006 and have had 2 minor acute injuries(I could still run while I was healing up, just less), I don't think it's having a terrible effect on me.

I'm not telling anyone not to stretch, I'm giving a little backstory for myself. Everything works differently for everyone. Our bodies are all different.

In the interest of diversity, do you stretch before you run, after you run or not at all? And what is your injury history?

I'm fairly new to running, but I don't stretch either. :ohwell: I get a little sore, but I think it's more from the resistance training I do for 30 min after more than the running. I simply run (ha, pun!) out of time to get ready for work, and, mind you, this is getting up at 520am to get in a workout before the day starts and gets hot. Luckily for me, my hubby makes breakfast on those days, so I don't have to worry about it!

I stretch only after. I do a lot of yoga so I just do poses that I know give good quad/hamstring stretches. I have SUPER tight hamstrings as it is so I think it's necessary. At least for me :D
  • Well, NO! Stretching is actually counter productive. One should do more dynamic stretching, walking, jumping jacks, etc.

I don't do anything, I just run. If I'm doing my sprints, I'll do a gentle jog for a couple of minutes first instead of going straight into them, but pretty much I just run.
