Thinking about having a "fasting" day.

Pro's --vs-- Con's ?????

Once a week - once every two - once a month ?????

Would use meal time those days to focus on praying for my MFP friends.

Interesting article on LDS people who fast once a month. Improved health markers were seen even while adjusting for their low rate of smoking and drinking.

I say that as long as you don't suffer from any conditions that would make fasting risky....go for it!

I just read the article...I am curious and want more info as well!

So can you drink juice/veggie broth/chicken broth, or only water?

I would also assume that a person would not work out on a "fast day"...correct?

Regarding the juice fasts, quoted directly from the article:

“These juice fasts and cleanses could have a similar effect to caloric restriction,” he says. “In animal studies, reducing the amount of daily calories by 40% to 50% has a benefit on your heart, but it is not as strong of a benefit as [water-only] fasting,” he says.

In other words, they aren't as beneficial as a water-only fast.

The article doesn't get into working out, but I personally would not workout on a fast day.
