I'm getting scared

Heya all,

So, from this site, I realized that I was in starvation mode, which was stalling my weight loss. So I've been slowly upping my calories to the recommended levels.

And I know my thighs have gotten bigger. I put on a pair of jeans that had come out of the wash and they were definitely a snugger around my thighs.

I knew I'd probably put on a few pounds while my body readjusted...but this still scares me.

How long will it take for my metabolism to get back on track?

I admit, my first thought is "AAAH! Back to 1100 calories NOW! But deep down I know that's not the way."

I exercise a lot, and am slowly working my way up to eating all my exercise calories...but I'm worried. When last summer started, I vowed I'd be able to look cute in a bikini the next summer. I'm starting to feel like that's never going to happen.

Sorry, I guess I'm just feeling melancholy.

I have heard that the best way to build up metabolism after you mess with it (cutting calories, taking pills, etc) is by doing strength training. I don't know of any other way to help besides drinking your water and eating small rounded meals throughout the day.

It's ok to vent. Just keep trying, one day at a time. I know how you feel, I have gained back a few since I started here(about ten lbs) and you just have to keep a positive frame of mind. It takes time to rev up a metabolism even if you are exercising. Try the strength training. I never had heard of it but I think I will give it a try. Thinking negatively will just give you liscense to eat because you won't think you are going to make it anyway so why not. Never apologize for needing a helping hand. We all do at times, I know because I have posted with a big helpme at one time or another. :flowerforyou:
  • I totally know what you mean :noway:
I've been in starvation mode for about 3 monthes!! I was really trying hard to lose the last 5 pounds so I was significantly under my calories, and I lost half of the weight eventually but now I'm plateued, and I want to start eating more, but now my metabolism is probably so messed up, that I'll gain weight while its adjusting. Ick, right before the holidays!
(Plus I wanted to eat alot of junk food at Christmas, and if my metabolism is super slow from undereating, then I will gain alot faster)
But just eat the reccomended amount, work out hard and tone!! Drink plenty of water and eat all day but small meals.
You can still fill your calories with healthy stuff! If you have 200 calories left, have toast with peanut butter instead of a chocolate bar. You can still eat more and lose weight/maintain if its healthy and low in fat or sugar!

Let's try together, hopefully these jeans will still fit too!

my jeans always get super tight when they come out of the dryer... So maybe you havn't really gained much. Just keep at it, once your body's back on track you'll be much more capable of losing weight! :flowerforyou:

I agree it's probably cause you just washed them. Have you measured yourself to see if you actually gained or got on the scale? Don't worry to much your body will even it self out soon:flowerforyou:

    :indifferent:

I believe I have just found my driving motivation for getting my metabolism back on track. Not the best, but DAMN, I hadn't thought of that.

I've never measured my thighs, so I wouldn't know how much they've grown. But of course, since I'm now thinking about it, my thoughts drift to "Zomg, my thighs are TOTALLY touching more than they used to!" Thoughts: the deadliest weapon of mankind.

    Ok!

Thanks for the support guys! I guess some of my anxiety comes from the fact that I'm returning home for Thanksgiving soon. My mom goes "Wow, you must be a 6 or 8 by now!" It hurt, since I was a 12 when I left and am now a I'm a 10 in most clothes (still sometimes a 12 though). I know I didn't lose more because I was calorie deprived. An 8 is my goal. My mom's the type who's always wanted to lose weight but always expected a miracle diet in the place of educated eating and exercise. I still remember being pissed when bread left the house for 3 months. So in terms of my weight-loss, it's a wee bit...awkward...between us.

And the children will lead them. So, you can show your mom this is the healthy way to lose weight. Slowly, with food and exercise. Note I didnt say diet...I said food.

We need food for fuel, you have learned that. You are way ahead of me at your age!

Good luck! (and I am sure your pants were tighter due to the dryer!!)

I don't know about you, but I am completely incapable of looking at someone and even coming near guessing their pant size. So regardless of you are a '10' or an '8', you've gotten smaller. The number doesn't matter. You can always replace your clothing tags with '8'. My mom doesn't understand the exercise/eat thing. She just stops eating, and no matter what I say, even if she ASKS for advice, her habits don't change. But her bad habits don't influence my good ones, nor do they make me feel less sure about what I'm doing. You're doing the right thing by taking this at a healthy pace, and you need to feel proud of it, not worried what others will think about it.
