logical consequence to breaking the garage door?

for the most part hubby and i are 'love and logic' parents, but sometimes it just doesn't have the satisfaction that a real punishment gives. :) for example, the boys just broke the garage door this morning by hanging on it. they are old enough to know they should not to touch things that don't belong to them, and should have the common sense to know that hanging on the garage door might not be a great idea. anyway, the logical conseqence is help fix it, to pay for it to be fixed, etc, but i don't think feel like that is enough.

how would you discipline your kids if this happened to you?

  • Don't know how old they are, but if they're old enough, how about disconnecting the garage door opener (if you have one) for whatever length of time you feel is appropriate; making them get out of the car and open and close the garage door when you come and go from the house? It's good exercise, too! ;-)
