Luna Bars -- working girl's dessert?

Heya,

So, I'm trying to up my calorie intake. I eat very nutritously all day, which is one reason I think I have problems--all those veggies are so low calorie! I'm slowly getting to my MPF-recommended calorie levels (after a whole summer and fall of starvation mode).

I work out in the evening. To help up my calories, would a Luna Bar as a dessert be ok? It's 180 calories, but appears to have lots of vitamins and good stuff in it. Or is this all a lie concocted by the company to make you think they're good for you?

Is there a better dessert? I'd like to up my calories on healthy food, not a dip into Ben & Jerry's...at least not too often  .

  • No, they are good for you... Mostly organic. If you go to Clifbar.com you can read up on them, or go to the Luna site also. I love and eat both brands...

Luna bars are pretty good. A a few even healthier options are Lara Bars and Nectar Bars. They are made from only fruit and nuts, I love the dark-chocolate walnut Nectar Bar and the Cherry Pie Lara bar. Lara Bar also has some other great flavors like mocha, cashew cookie, cocoa mole, lemon... Another really good dessert that is nutritious and festive/seasonal: pumpkin spice yogurt. Just mix some canned pumpkin with plain or vanilla yogurt, add some cinnamon, a few raisins, and a few chopped nuts. (note: if you use plain yogurt add a little extra cinnamon and little bit of vanilla extract).

Um...that yogurt recipe sounds delicious! I'm definitely making me some of that!

I'm going to have to try a Lara bar! The grocer on Haight sells like...every flavor of the buggers. I used to refuse to get near 'em because of the calories. But now I'm actually trying to eat more, so they should come in handy.
