Weight fluctuation and strength training

I find that after I do something that makes my muscles very sore for a few days my weight goes up. This was very frustrating at first because my weight kept jumping up and down by as much as five pounds. Do I retain more water when my muscles are healing? I notice if I go through a period of not working out my weight does not jump around! However I definitely want the muscle gain and I love my strength training, so that is not the problem, I'm just hoping someone can help tell me why it goes up and down.

PS Im at work so if I dont respond right away dont take it personaly :) Thanks!

Sure, you muscles hold fluid to heal. They can also increase in lactid acid which can cause weight gain..

Pretty sure that they do. If the fluctuations bother you, only weigh once ever week (or even 2 weeks).

I noticed that too that's why I decided to Do cardio the day before weigh in instead of strength.

Yeah, but it's better to be 'fit' than 'skinny-fat'.

I always weigh more after an intense workout. I think it is that your muscles retain water to help them heal but I am not 100% sure.
  • Thanks for the help everyone! Now I wont feel so confused after my workouts. :)
