It WON'T happen overnight!!

I have been reading a lot on the threads here and especially to the newer members, I want to share this story! I want to tell you how I got here! The 30th of Sept, I told myself that I was going to commit one month (OCT) to exercising and dieting. I joined MFP back in Aug, so it took me that long to make my mind up! From Oct 1-Oct 8, I just toyed around with it, but didn't lose anything. I woke up the morning of the 9th and worked out on my elliptical and came here to log my food. That day was so easy for me that I wanted to do it the next day. Keep in mind that I was only going to do this for a month ( I hated exercise, dieting, and all of it. I wanted my cookies, chips, little debbie snacks and all). The end of Oct, I had lost 4lbs, I had lost my appetite for all those sweet things and I was waking up eager to exercise! I'm still going at it, BUT....I chose things that I enjoyed doing (elliptical, dancing, and step) I recently, just last week, added strength training and I'm finding out that I'm loving it! It wasn't my plan to keep going until Nov 21 because I wasn't going to "stick with it' that long. I even told myself that. I was very negative and my weight gain was a reflection of it! I remember standing in the fitting room crying because nothing fit or looked right when I tried it on. I had to hit bottom to start climbing!
The point is...YOU CAN MAKE THIS WORK!! Fight for what you want. Say positive things to yourself. Look at yourself in a positive way. I'm living proof that it doesn't happen overnight and you can't always make your mind up that "tomorrow I'm going to start my new lifestyle" it has to be a week, a day, and sometimes a minute at a time to make the change! Know what you want and GO FOR IT! No one said it would be easy, but smile at the tough times, it's making you stronger, it's part of the process!! Take hold of the journey and let go of the past!! I luvs you all and you are strong people! (((Hugs)))

Well said Clewliss :drinker:
I came back on 9th September, after being told that my health was suffering, snce then, in a little over 2 months, I have lost 27 pounds, lost the couch potato in me and got myself membership at my local gym.
I am healthier and happier than I have been in a long time, nd I WILL keep going, I love waking up in the mornings now, I used to hate waking up, but now I can't wait to go to bed and get up the next day :flowerforyou:
We can all do it, sometimes we'll need a shove, sometimes we'll need nagging, but at the end of the day, its a long process to a life of fulfillment :flowerforyou:0 -
Way to go Clewliss! great story! Keep going and good luck!
I think the fact that weightloss takes alot of time and effort frustrates most people or is the biggest misconception.. to think that if they start it, it will only take a matter of days for thier problems will be gone.
I wish!
It took me a whole year to lose 20lbs, and I excersize 6x days a week for an hour and a half, and eat very, very healthy and restrict any snacking. It takes alot of time, but its totally worth it when you've hit your goal weight. :drinker:0 -
You are right clewliss, you are the only one that can make yourself stick with it and it is so worth it :bigsmile:0
