Doesn't your cafeteria have a salad bar or something? What about grilled chicken? Sandwiches? Oatmeal? If you can eat healthy at McDonalds, you can eat healthy at a school cafeteria.

Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. You want something, make it known to the manager, or get together other people who want healthier options.

    I'm in college too, btw.

I just grocery shop and make food at my apartment to eat. It works
  • No soups or sandwich making areas? If they make hamburgers, they probably make grilled chicken too.

I worked in food service during college...you have no idea how unhealthy even the health items are. For example, if any cooked veggies are on the menu make sure that they haven't been covered in butter or oil. I used to get a mix of steamed veggies but then found out they used a ton of butter after steaming them.

Follow Pheonixflame's advice and talk to a manager. They don't know you want it until you ask.
  • My college has alot of totally bad food, the smell of pizza makes me weak in the knees, but it does also have a vegetarian bar with salads and pasta and cereals, and mock meat like tofu and veggi burgers (But I don't eat those  ), they also have fruit and soups. Then I grocery shop for healthy snacks to keep at my place.
If not, you might have to ask for more healthy options to the manager. I think all colleges should have healthy food for growing and learning minds and bodies!!

Even if they won't carry it on the "regular menu", many times cafeteria works are more than willing to make special requests. Just put on a sweet smile when asking for something different.

I can totally sympathize. I lived in the dorms for two years and the food was awful. Yeah there was a salad bar . . .but it wasn't exactly appetizing. The second year I pretty much lived on instant oatmeal that I made in our not-allowed-to-be-there microwave. Yeah dorm food sucks. It doesn't last forever though! :flowerforyou:

The Comm College I attended had a few microwaves you could use. Just keep a microwavable soup cup in your bag/pack. Campbells Soup has a few choices...Pop the top and heat. Easy, cheap, no mess and it can hold you over until you get home.

I see a few people lining up for the microwave with lean cuisine and other frozen stuff. Why not try that?

I'm lucky that the area I'm from is so diverse. We have certian menus because we have quite a few students who are in religions and cultures that have special diets.
