Sodium & Water intake

I tried to search for an answer in previous forums and havent had and luck...... will drinking more water balance out my sodium intake? For example Im going over today by lik 1000mg :( if I drink a ton of water will some of that sodium get flushed out? Im really confused about all this sodium talk! please help!!

    It will help, but not "fix" the problem.

    Yes water will flush out sodium from the body. Just make sure you are drinking the generally recommended 8 cups a day. Should be more than enough.

    Don't drink too much water though.
  • You need to drink extra water to get rid of SOME. Keep in mind that you will also get rid of other minerals[and likely fall short of RDA]
    The best way to get rid of lots of salt is to SWEAT a lot and exercise.

    Not sure what precious is talking about? Unless you are drinking more than 1.5 gallons you should be fine...and it will help.

    Sweat shouldnt be a problem ... livin in Phx, AZ it kinda comes with the territory lol Thanks!

    Extra water will help some, but the real problem with sodium is that it can cause a rise in blood pressure in some people. Some people it doesn't seem to bother at all. If you are constantly over you should check your BP often and if it's high maybe talk to your doctor about a diuretic BP med. Or, preferably, just cut down on sodium.
