I want to cry.

Last monday I went to bootcamp and did a quad stretch exercise that required my right knee to be down on the ground while pulling my right foot to my butt. My knee killed and so I came out of the stretch and then the class was over so I headed home and my knee hurt a little but it was ok. It seemed fine that day and then tuesday morning when I woke up it felt a little stiff or swollen but it didn't look obviously swollen. I took advil and rested it for a few days. On Saturday I went for a run. It felt ok but 20 mins or so into the run, it KILLED and so I walked. It was sore but ok. Again I rested til today (Friday). Today I decided to do just the elipical very gently. I did it for about 10 mins and my knee went out on me completely. I could not go up the stairs -- the pain is a sharp pain.

The pain is in my right knee. It is on the left (inner) side of my right knee cap. It feels like it is right under and next to the knee cap. It seems to come and go but exercise (even mild) seems to cause it to KILL (sharp pain) and almost buckle under me. It does not appear swollen. I am icing it now and took 3 advil.

HELP. I am just to the point where I can exercise without being totally out of shape. I want to cry.

Anyone want to play arm chair doctor?

I have knee problems too, I feel your pain!

Call your doctor. In the meantime, lay off the exercise (at least, anything involving your legs). My knee has gotten progressively better and stronger with stretching and doing a good warm up.

    Good luck!

I just went through similar. I went from running 1x daily to 2x daily, 5k each time. A couple days in and WHAM!!. My knee went out. I have had 2 surgeries in the past on it. One 25 years ago for a torn MCL and 6 years ago for torn cartilage. Just went to the Ortho today. X-rays showed no real damage. Just lots of inflammation. Doc told me to take off 6-8 weeks from running. Take 2 Aleve in the morning, two at nite and focus on cycling, swimming etc. Low impact stuff.

If it doesn't get better, please go and get to the doctor. I was taking Jazzercise classes and I tore a meniscus. I let it go for years and ended up having to have surgery. My knee has not been the same since..... but yours could be somthing as simple as a pulled muscle or bruise.

    Hope everything works out ok!

Sounds like you strained your quad, possibly even a ligament tear!

For the love of pete, stop trying to go running and exercising, and rest your leg with regular ice packs and let yourself heal!

You're not going to balloon with fat by taking time to heal. If anything, if you try to push through it...you could do serious long term damage.

Could be as minor as a sprain, or as serious as a meniscus or MCL tear. I tore my MCL two years ago, and although it hurt, I walked on it for two weeks before I got it looked at. I had a 95% tear of the ligament and ended up in a brace for 18 weeks plus rehab. It was MUCH worse than I ever thought. Please go see your Doc, or go direct to an Orthopaedist if your insurance allows.

I had pains in my knees in the same location at the start of the year. Be careful, go see a physio if it gets worse.

I pulled ligaments in both knees, the right one was worse. It took a good few physio sessions and about a month of no exercise to heal. My right kneecap still floats and causes problems on/off.

Don't ignore the pain! (about to post my very own injury-rant related post in a sec, grrrrrrr......)

I guess I need to follow up and reply to this one too!! I have had 5 knee surgeries! Yep...five!! I agree with what everyone says...go to the doctor. It could be nothing, or it could be serious. But truth is, if you lay off awhile and you think it is better and it really wasn't...you could further damage it.
I have had 3 reconstructions, 2 orthoscopics. 3 on the left knee and 2 surgeries on the right knee. Always said my husband didn't marry me because of my good lookin knees.

    Miss running the most!

Wishing you all the best and speedy recovery. But don't do anything else until you've had it checked out.

I have knee problems also. It's been a few years that I went to the doc. Did an xray and nothing showed. Never went for an MRI. It still hurts on and off so I wear a brace when I workout. It's weird I can go up stairs fine but going down is a killer!!
