Well, I started out my weight loss journey with a bang but I am afraid now at the 8 month mark, I am running out of juice. Iv lost 23lbs and dropped a few sizes. I feel great and everything but lately I have been down.

I am going to blame all that on my knee injury that I had happen 10 years ago. I was playing tennis in high school PE when i tripped and sprained my knee really bad. Of course military Dr.s are useless so they did not perform an MRI or even an XRAY. just crutches and told me to elevate and ice.

So 10 years later With all my exercise (mainly the running I started back in may) I have awoken my damaged knee. Little did I know an injury from high school was going to taunt me for the rest of my active life.

After going to see a orthopedic/sports medicine Dr., I have been informed that I have a torn (not all the way) PCL and a damaged but still intact ACL. The PCL damage is def. noticeable and would explain a lot of the little issues I have had with my knee since the day I hurt it. Driving long distances is painful. Running starts out ok but ends ...slightly painful. Jumping, is a no no and to think I signed up for the WARRIOR DASH in October! (i am STILL going to do it...).

Anyway, my exercise routine has changed a lot now since I need to be easy of my "loose" knee. I am little depressed and just don't seem to care anymore. Well, I care enough to still come on here and log my foods but other than that...i could care less. I know it could be worse and everything but Right now, this is bad for me and I am not taking it as well as I would like.

Surgery was mentioned, but as a last option. Physical therapy starts At the end of this Month...and I need to buy an ugly hinged stabilizing knee brace . :( thats not very cute now is it?

Anyway. I guess I am just trying to fish for some encouraging words since I don't really have that many REAL friends in REAL LIFE. Only a few people have shown a genuine concern and interest about me and my knee but I never seem to be able to walk to them for longer than 15 mins because...we are at work.

Oh well. that is all...for now. Maybe there are other people out there who may be in a boat like mine? or once used a boat like mine??

I'm so sorry about the injury :( it sucks to work out and be in pain. What you have to do is go back and look at how far you've already come. Your ticker reads "seven pounds to go" and not "lost seven pounds" You might be down for the count int he running department, but there are lots of other heathy ways to excerise and get your heart rate up! Even power walking might help!

I think it is normal to feel down when you have something going on like this in your life. It affects everything you do, especially if your in pain. Just know that unfortunately you cannot change the situation but that things will be looking up for you! If they are trying physical therapy then maybe there is a chance to fix it without surgery which would be a plus. Maybe your doctor can you a shot in the knee to get you through your race.

As for the ugly knee brace that you mentioned...maybe you can glam it up your style!! Just have faith that everything will turn out in the long run!! You can get through this and good luck to you!! Praying for better days ahead for you!

Poor thing. I have a friend whose ACL is completely jacked up. One of the things that her physical therapist recommended is water jogging/walking. It seems to be working and you don't have the jarring you do running on land.

You could totally bedazzle your brace. A little bling can make anything cute!

Thats is good advice! You can do other exercises in order to continue getting healthy!!
  • You have made huge strides in your life... and 8 months shows "sticking power." Maybe look into joining a pool, only for a month or so, the low impact can help you feel better, and change up your routine (i.e. maybe work up the metabolism)

If you need a diet buddy to help with day-to-day motivation, send me a message. Other than that, I can say that I empathise with you situation regarding your knee. I had a partial knee replacement a few years ago, and should have had my other one done by now but life keeps getting in the way - plus, I now know what to expect re. the surgery!! I was very young to have the op being in my 40s, but it was arthritis that made it necessary. The knee that I have yet to have replaced often gives me trouble - doing squats or lunges is weird cos one knee works fine, and the other grates and is quite painful! Hoping that by the time I have lost all my excess weight, my knees (and back) will be much better! Maybe between us - any anyone else replying to this tread, we can sort out the best way to exercise for those of use with dodgy knees. Don't know if you use the sparkpeople website, but I saw something recently about exercises for knee problem sufferers, I'll see if I can find it. Take care, Janet xx ;-D

thanks for the words everyone... I actually have been looking to work a pool into my life. I tired swimming in our local water inlet but got stung by jellies so I put that idea to the side lol.

I just the idea of jazzing up the knee brace! Reading that put a smile on my face..lol I don't know why I didn't think of that.

I guess I am just scared because I am 25 with a dodgy knee. One of those "if I knew then what I know now" sort of circumstances. I guess I need to stop beating my self up about it but I know that it is really taking a toll on my new active lifestyle. I was really falling in love with running. I even had hopes to run with my brother one day (he is big into fitness and I think he too was happy I took up running) But I guess there is always the bicycle to fall in love with

But thanks for the encouraging words...and ideas! I appreciate them! like I said..the bedazzling idea put a smile on my face lol

Physical therapy can take you a long way. Maybe you won't be running anytime soon, but if you work at it and take your time then maybe one day you'll run again. My hip was screwed up in a car accident in high school. I used to have trouble moving my right leg, but I worked through it and eventually earned a black belt in Taekwondo. Yes, the leg I could barely move can now execute a kick at head level. You CAN do this. Believe in yourself. :)
