Stupid Facebook Inches Game "for breast cancer awareness"
So basically almost all the girls on my FB have been blasting my news feed with "5 inches", "8 inches", "6 1/2" inches, etc.
I looked it up, and basically it's about girls trying to "raise awareness" for breast cancer by posting shoe sizes or hair length interchangeably. They put (for example) "5 inches", and then comment on their status with a ":-(".
What are your thoughts on this? I read that this is more related to confusing guys than helping with breast cancer awareness... (Btw, for you participants in this "game", it's not hard to use Google)

I am not a fan of any "breast cancer awareness" that isn't actually helping the cause in any way. If you want to make people aware of breast cancer, volunteer your time at a clinic or run in a 5K or 10K that donates money to breast cancer research or something.
I also wasn't a fan when people on MFP post photos of their breasts (in bras of course) in the name of "breast cancer awareness". I'm sure the woman who has breast cancer and had to have her breasts removed really loves you flaunting your boobs in a cute bra in the name of "awareness".0 -
I've actually NEVER been a fan of this type of tactic - especially for Breast Cancer awareness. EVERYONE IS AWARE OF BREAST CANCER. If you're not, you live under a rock. I AM glad for all of the actual educational and fund raising efforts, but it makes me a little sad that other, common and lethal forms of cancer/illnesses seem to get short changed. Yes, I know women who suffered from Breast Cancer. Thanks to so many educational and fund raising efforts, it's caught earlier and earlier and is more and more curable. I'm an Ovarian Cancer dodger myself. There is an illness that has almost ZERO unexplainable symptoms. There are no "lumps". Just some bloating, exhaustion, etc. All symptoms every woman has probably experienced and explained away. Yet almost every case isn't caught until it's Stage 2 or later, and then there is an 85% change of death within 5 years. But I don't see any Ovarian Cancer awareness work going out.
If you want to raise awareness - JUST SAY IT, or show it. I see little "games" like this as sort of juvenile and ridiculous. it's not educational, it doesn't raise money, and honestly, I'd be REALLY surprised if one person said, "Oh?! THERE IS BREAST CANCER?! WHAT IS THAT and How Can I Help?" after stunts like this. I'd rather see everyone donate 1 penny to a paypal fund to raise money for education or to support a cure, rather than put a shoe size, bra color, etc on their facebook status.0 -
oh, because you're 15. makes sense0

The breast cancer facebook games are offensive to many with or surviving breast cancer. Plus they really have nothing to do with breast cancer -- shoe size, really????
Want to do something that actually supports breast cancer awareness (other than joke about it)? Donate to a related charity, help someone that is going through treatments, or schedule yourself (and remind others to schedule) a mammogram.0 -

That's not even relevant and if you think it is, reread the thread or deflate your ego.
I'm just taking it seriously because there's literally hundreds of these statuses in my news feed.0 -

Actually, blueshred displays more maturity than people on this site who are 3 times his age. He was legitimately asking a question to see what people think. There is nothing wrong with that.0 -

Thanks Heather and Jessilee!0 -
I just don't understand people's problem with it to be honest.
And no, I don't participate in any of the games.0 -
Here's another issue...privacy. The internet knows what you're doing at all times. As I'm reading this thread, the ad at the top of the page is for breast canger gear...0

If you'd like to help people with breast cancer (instead of blasting people's news feeds), donate to charity.0 -

It's just silly. Like that thing where women would post where they kept their handbag. "I like it beside the bed" "I like it on the table". It isn't clever and when everyone's status is something stupid, just to have an unfunny inside joke, I can see why it would get annoying.
I don't use Facebook currently (long story involving drama, and to be honest, I come off looking like a *kitten* so I won't tell it) but when stuff like this masquerades as some kind of charitable deed, it makes it even more irritating.0 -

The "game" makes NO sense. And --- it does absolutely NOTHING for the cause. It almost uses breast cancer as an excuse to tease the boys. And the one about bra color --- so.....let's support those with breast cancer by talking about the cute bras that they may never wear again.....or by talking about the breasts that have had removed.
Just my opinion though...0 -
