Tomorrow I am running my longest distance ever...10K-6.2 miles. I've never run that far, the furthest was 5.5. And it's going to be freezing (weather.com says 40, but will feel like 24). I went to Target and got a new pair of running pants and a new blue fleece. Oh and this cute headband thingy with a little brim. I figure I should be able to do it in an hour. I've worked out before for an hour straight, even longer!....heck I can do this!!!! :noway: :noway:

Quick motivational story about my first ever 10K (which was my longest distance at that point too).

So I show up at the race, I had never run more than about 5 miles, I'm standing next to a marathoner (in total awe, as I hadn't done any yet), and telling him my hopes of first of all just finishing, and secondly trying to finish in under 75 minutes (I hadn't run in almost 2 weeks and was very nervous). I ended up having a great run, it was just like a 1:03 and as I was stretching my name was called...I had one first place in my age group and got a trophy!!! Yay me!!! Before you tell me how awesome that is you must know I was the ONLY one in my age group that day, ha-ha!!! Anyway, it was still cool, kind of a nice way to commemorate my first 10K.

You'll do great, don't worry about the weather, dress in layers, pants, a bra and tank top, long sleeve lightweight underneath and then your fleece, cover your ears, it sounds like there will be wind? Is that why the temp will feel so cold? You want to be cold at the start, I promise you'll warm up and probably shed some layers. I run in MN all winter long and I'm a freeze baby, I'm always surprised how warm I am.

    Good luck!

Let me tell you, anyone who runs 10 miles in ANY kind of weather is a winner! Plus, you've already won before you started just be attempting it in my book. Do you know how many people in this world would be scared to death, or too lazy, or fill-in-reason to even ATTEMPT to run 10 miles. Heck, I know I wouldn't try it! I jogged a little over a mile on the treadmill in the gym the other day and felt like I had run a marathon!

llSo, I know you'e do great but you're already a champion to us! award_1.gif

You GO! I'll be running along with you in spirit because I can't run right now, so I have to cheer others on. The longest race I've ever run was a 6-miler last year, not quite a 10K, in almost 100 degree weather. It was so hot that many people couldn't run the whole thing, including me, and we had to stop and walk parts of it. Plus I was running with an injury. This year only ran two races (5Ks, last year I ran eleven) and probably shouldn't have been running them. The good news is that I see a chiropractor/sports doctor on Tuesday and I'm hoping he can straighten my body out so I will be able to run again by spring.

Good luck and enjoy the ability to race. I miss it so much. You will do great and feel like a million bucks when you cross that finish line!
