I'm doing Jenny Craig for food (at this point I can't do it without the food being given to me . I tried it for six months and put all the weight back on plus 5kg) and I'm worried about sodium. I asked the question on Friday to one of the JC consultants and she said she was told it was OK and that had the same issue when she first started and spoke to their nutrisionists. But according to my stats I'm WAY over on sodium and I'm worried.

Any frozen dinner is going to be pretty high in sodium. It's not good to get more than the recommended 2500mg. It should be less than that. Include sodium in your macros and see how much you are getting. Too much sodium can cause all kinds of issues. How long do you plan on doing JC?0

My advice is to speak to a dietician who isn't emplyoed by the company and is thus far more impartial. The "nutritionalists" for atkins also say that's safe, while almost every dietician in the world will tell you that it's not. Speak to someone who has the credentials themelves, not a rep, and speak to someone with the credentials who isn't getting paid by the company that's paying their salary.0

I believe you should be worried. :frown: I'll give you an example. One of the hot summer weeks NYC had, I had boars head hard salami for lunch and sometimes dinner almost everyday during this one week. I didn't go over my calories and was drinking lots of water. I gained almost 5 pounds that week. A week later I lost over 5 pounds. As much as I want hard salami, I haven't touch it since. So, just be careful with your sodium intake. Don't forget to drink LOTS of water.
Best of luck.0 -
Too much sodium is unlikely to hurt you unless you already have high blood pressure. It will make make you hate your scale due to several pounds of water retention though. Drinking more water helps to flush out the sodium and get rid of water retention. Yes, drink more water to get rid of water retention.0

Too much sodium can cause high blood pressure. Fluid retention increases your blood pressure. It can also cause kidney disease. Any excess of sodium in your body is filtered out and eliminated through the kidneys. The more sodium you consume, the harder your kidneys have to work to eliminate the excess. Overworking the kidneys can damage them.0 -

Didn't they just reduce the recommended sodium levels per day to 1500 mg or am I delirious? I eat very little processed food so my sodium little but when I do have a coldcut or eat out at a restaurant, holy cow!!!0 -
I just checked my diary for the last week. Today I'm way under but I've had some days I've been 2000 over.
I've always had good blood pressure, despite being morbidly obese. The last time my doctor took it, he retook it because he thought it was too good for my weight.
I thought this might have something to do with my ****ty result last week. After six days of following I'd only lost 0.1g. I HAD lost 3.4 the week before, but still!0 -

They actually reduced it to 2300, but I try to keep mine to 2000. Not sure about 1500, but it's hard to keep it that low.0 -
