calories burned with stroller walking

I'm wondering if anyone has a good resource to figure out calories burned when pushing a stroller. MFP said 91 calories for 30 minutes but I was huffing and puffing up and down hills. This was not a leisurely stroll! I felt just as wiped out as I do after 30 minutes on the elliptical. Thanks in advance.

i just googled it, there are some other sites where you can input your weight and how long you walked while pushing. Just google how many calories does walking while pushing a stroller burn and you should find some results!0

I usually don't log it as stroller pushing. I push a HUGE double jogger with about 50 pounds of kid in it, it's NOT an easy stroll! I usually log it as a walk according to MPH which gives me more calories for the time.0

I agree that the amount MFP lists is really low for me too. I used a HRM to get the actual cals burned and then picked the "right" walking pace listed on MFP to give me the right number of calories. I walk fast normally and have found almost all of the walking work rates to be lower than what I actually burn.0

Thanks everyone. I just googled my route and figured out a rough pace so I can at least figure out calories for the walk minus the stroller!0

I do a 2.4 mile route in roughly 40 minutes and I log it as 3.5 mph brisk walk (2.4/40=.06, and 3.5/60=.0583 so I figure it's a close match) but I push my heavy lil dude in it (30lbs not including the old school stroller's weight) and I do feel like I burn more than 130ish calories!!! I wish there was a calculator for the pushed weight, distance walked, time spent and weight, but I haven't found it yet. If anyone does, let me know!0

Hi! So I was also looking into this and decided to ask 2 different personal trainers. Basically I asked what pushing my double stroller would burn compared to my treadmill with crosstrainer arms. So he said that my coloric burn would be very similar to that of walking approx same pace on treadmill at a min 1% incline with the crosstrainer arms. Because you're arms are always engaged and working you are getting a full body burn pushing your stroller. Now of course this will very by weight of kids/stroller/yourself etc. So i walked on my treadmill for 20 min at the same pace as I would outside at the 1% incline and with the arms and burned 187 calories according to the treadmill. Since this would be a little closer to the actual burn you would get outside you could create your own exercise in the app and add this formula in to get a more accurate calculation. BTW both trainers agreed that this would be very similar and also a great workout. Happy walking ladies (gentlemen) hope this helps0

get an HRM! I can't understand why so many people that are trying to lose weight don't have one! Should be your first investment towards your goal!0

I had this same question a couple months ago. I went and got an HRM and for me, I walk/jog a 12 minute mile. I am 5'3 and 134 pounds and for a 30 min walk/jog i burn 250 to 300 calories. This is pushing a 30 pound child in a 20 lb jogging stroller. I'd definitely invest in a HRM bc before that i was logging it as walking and it would say 165 calories. That's a big difference especially if you are trying not to eat too little!!0

I was planning on finding an HMR this weekend, any suggestions on a good place to find a decent one?0
