I just read this article:
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/32665106/ns/today-food/t/move-over-twinkies-deep-fried-butter-here/#.Tj1eO4J6MxE

and it kind of just grosses me out..a lot. I know that there are plenty of people that love all of these deep fried thing (cookies, candy bars, kool-aid, etc.) I just wonder if there is ever going to be a point where people will stop deep frying weird things. I have only had funnel cakes but when I think of these deep fried foods all I can think of is grease. I hate the feeling of biting into food that has so much grease in it. I can't even eat pizza with pepperoni if there is too much grease on it. I guess it could have to do with the fact that if I eat too much greasy stuff I get bad stomach cramps.

Just wondering if others have the same feelings about something that (to me) is so gross.

Just make sure you don't go to the Fair with any friends who are taking Alli.

Totally agree! I was raised in California and we just don't have stuff like that there. But my husband was raised in Texas and he LOVES all that stuff. He bought a deep fryer a couple days ago so he could deep fry his own twinkies and snickers bars. I just can't do it. He was raised that way and I wasn't....

Yes, I guess that is true. Although I've spent most of my life in WV- can't say that's the most healthy of places:laugh: I have to add that one of my all time favorite foods were fried potatoes w/onions (don't know where all those are popular) but I had to quit eating them because of the grease issues with my stomach

I can understand how they come up with some of the fried things at the fair, but this is just insane to me. What must it taste like? And how would you even eat it? Yuck!

I grew up in South Carolina where fatback is one of the main food groups. I've never tasted it and I never will but I HAVE deep fried a grilled cheese sandwich. The uhhh...repercussions, shall we say, were enough to keep me from trying that again.
  • fried foods aren't necessarily bad for you. As long as you follow proper frying the food doesn't take on much oil at all. Its fast food places and crazy fair food that gives fried food a bad rap. i love my fried foods... i just make them at home where i can control the quality of food and oil.

fried pickles are to good to give up! lol

OMG...I LOVE fried pickles. Thank you so much for posting this!!! I have lived in GA my whole life. They fry EVERYTHING here. I don't fry very much, but I was raised on it and will occasionally indulge in it.

The California State Fair (annually, in July) has had a stand for deep fried foods (twinkies, hot dogs, butter, pickles, ice cream, etc) for years. It's simultaneously fascinating and repulsive.

I had to laugh really hard this week when one of my coworkers said that the new food at the state fair this year was going to be deep fried cigarettes. It was a nice metaphor to show how the fried foods are getting out of hand.
