i am struggling to understand why when i go on my exercise bike it shows i have burned 49 calories but when i logged it in on MFP it showed i burned 376!!! if it was only a small difference i wouldn't be bothered...just don't get how there is such a BIG gap????

Select "My Exercises" under the Exercise tab and put in a custom workout. I did this for my treadmill workouts because I trust the treadmill numbers more than I trust the MFP numbers.

Does the calculator on the bike ask for your height, weight, gender, and age? MFP's calculator factors all of those in, so I think that could be the reason for the difference.

You can't trust exercise machines for calorie burns. They're all over the road. That being said, you also have to watch how many calories MFP gives you, because at times it seems like it overdoes it. Good luck and happy biking!

I don't trust in my treadmill or mfp calculations...I trust in my HRM (heart rate monitor), very accurate compared to what the machine might give.

yeah i reckon MFP does overdo it a bit...but i also googled it and found a site which says on average for a 30 min workout (which is what i did) a person would burn around 300!!
i have still to get a HRM been meaning to for a while!

In comparison to my hrm the calories on MFP are usually double. That being said I don't trust MFP for the count. I don't have advice on what to do other than maybe split the difference. If accurate count is important to you, you might consider getting a hrm.

I get different results when using MFP's calorie calculator and the tracking in Runkeeper. I err on the side of caution and enter the lowest figure of the two.
