Has anyone used the nike ipod sensor and how accurate do you think it is? I have one and used it while walking on treadmill but it showed a very large difference in calories burned compared to what treadmill said. My treadmill is about 8 years old so it could be it but just curious what others experience has been.

Mine was inaccurate until I ran the calibration, then it was really close. But you have to know exactly how far you're running so it can interpret your stride length. In the end (and since I run outside exclusively), I moved to a GPS. Way more accurate just outta the box :)

    Good luck on your journey!

Don't calibrate it on the treadmill. Do it on a track/known distance.

    When I use it for running/jogging on a treadmill it's usually with in 3/10 of a mile ... outdoors within 1/10. It's a tool ... not 100% accurate.

the displays on my treadmill broke the week I got my Nike Sensor, so I'm not sure based on that. However, I've heard a lot of people complain about it being inaccurate or about it dying in the middle of the run so they don't get "credit". I wasn't crazy about it. After a while it would sort of bounce around in my shoe so I had to spend (what seemed like) hours on the phone with tech support only to learn I should tape it down in that little area of my shoe, which I thought was pretty weird.

I use the addidas micoach app on my phone now and I LOVE it. It uses GPS, its free, and it will talk me up or down if I'm going too slow or too fast. It will keep track of how much I'm running on various shoes, and will put together a training plan for you. WAY better. If you have a smart phone, they have an app for you.

Otherwise, you need to calibrate the Nike sensor by walking evenly in a measured location (or on a treadmill you trust) AND run evenly in a measured location. I think you have to keep the same pace for a half mile, maybe only a quarter, but that's hard for me to do.

I find it's pretty accurate. When I run on the treadmill the calories are much higher too. I believe it's because I haven't set up my weight in the program, I just do a quick start.
