Does anyone work out (cardio) using a weighted vest? or do their normal house chores wearing it? do you feel it helps weight loss?
I have been carrying around a 10 pound backpack a lot this week and I love how I feel when I take it off.

I carry around my 8 month old in a backpack for a couple hours every day.
1 hour for the four older kids' swim lessons and sometimes another hour running errands so I can keep my hands free to hold onto the twins. Or I just wear her while washing dishes and doing laundry.
I admit, I wonder about how many more calories I'm burning carrying her all the time. And it's a good feeling at the end of the errands when I take her off.
Good for you!0 -

Im sort of halfway on the whole weighted vest concept.
Here are my reasons for them:
1. They without a doubt help improve cardiovascular function in any form of exercise...I don't care what it is, use a vest and you will see improvement.
2. If you are doing pullups (strength training) and are starting to get upwards of 20-30 reps, implementing a weighted vest will help bring you down to a muscle building / toning stage of 8-15 reps again.
3. If you are training for an event, using a vest can help to give you an accelerated edge against your competition, assuming you put an appropriate amount of effort into your training to make advantage of it.
Here are my reasons against them:
1. Using the vests without proper safety precautions can result in long term, if not permanent injuries to your back, and legs.
2. Using the vests for extended periods of time without rest can again, result in severe injuries.
3. Many people tend to forget that weighted vests are just that...WEIGHTED vests, and need to be treated with the same attitude that a normal weight would be. Nobody walks around all week holding 50 pound barbells in their hands nonstop, if you did that your arms would be screaming. The same concept applies to the weighted vest, your back, and your legs.0 -

I wore my baby too! I miss that, cause as soon as she learned to walk she wouldn't let me stuff her in it anymore  Maybe I should find someone else's baby to borrow. lol0 -
Kohadre - would you recommend switching back and forth to something different. Like vest one workout and legs and hip belt or wrist/ankle weights on the next?0

Yup, I would definitely recommend a variety where it comes to using weighted clothing in workouts. This way your both targeting different areas of the body, and helping to prevent against injury by not being repetitive.0
