Ok, so I finally decided to do a cheat day. I ate roughly about 600 calories more than usual for that day (and that was after I thought i would eat a small like snack, until I plugged in the site). I usually eat 1200 daily. So there Mmmmm...here's my problem. How can I gain three pounds in one day. I woke up extremlely late that day. So my breakfast ended up being my lunch and dinner (that so called snack...Not happening again) Any whoots. Do/and can anyone give me better advice on cheat days, because at this rate. I would have to spend 11hrs in the gym just to burn that off and my legs.

Don't have them. Fit whatever you want to eat in your daily allotment. or calorie cycle.

It's probably just water weight (especially if you ate salty food). Give it a couple of days and it will probably go. I've used cheat days and they do give you a boost so long as you're not having one every other day and working out and eating clean the rest of the time.

If you're up 3 lbs from an extra 600 calories then it's mostly water. I'm a firm believer in a little cheating although as a general rule I try not to deprive myself period. I just try to make smarter choices. Whenever I have more of an honest cheat day I don't weigh myself for a couple of days. It's less stressful that way:)

My guess is it is water weight fluctuation. If what you ate had a lot of salt, you may be holding water.
I do one cheat day a week~~Sunday~~and enjoy some things I don't the rest of the week. I still try and come in at or under my allotted calories.
I do not weigh daily. (it fluctuates too much from day to day---once a week, or once every two weeks works)
Just watch what/how much you eat and then if it was too much, work it off the next couple of days with extra exercise and better eating habits.
    You'll be fine! :flowerforyou:

you can't put on 3lb from 600 cals, you'd have to eat an extra 10500 cals to put on 3 lb. It's just water weight, dw!

You can retain a lot of water, depending if you ate high salt foods or not. Dont sweat it.

I think cheat days are a good idea to keep your metabolism up. 600 calories is not going overboard by any meas. Drink extra water for a couple of days after (more than the 8 cups each day) and you should be back to where you started. It is impossible to gain 3 pounds from 600 calories.

This! ONE extra pound is 3500 calories, so how could 3 extra pounds be caused by only 600? It's water weight and/or the weight of the food. This strategy may not be for everyone, but I don't log a cheat day/meal because I would just stress over how many extra I ate (like you are doing) and then I would defeat it's purpose....afterall the point of a cheat meal is to give yourself a little break from logging and depriving yourself, so if you're not going to enjoy it, why do it?
  • Don't worry about it. Keep eating as you're supposed to and in a few days you may even discover that you have shed extra pounds.

Now see that is where we differ, i do weigh in because i want to see how it changed to gauge in my brain the consequence of certain food. If i am really honestly craving it and it will take me over for the day i let myself then weigh in the next morning to see what it did to me and i don't usually do it again, or i do less.

    want + action = consequence + learn!

I agree with alanapa ... I had a cheat weekend and gained five pounds. Lost it all within days of getting "back on the ball" .... Most of my "cheating foods" were high in sodium, and my poor poor body was not used to all that salt after eating healthy, i.e. bloating and water retention.

Keep moving forward! Do not let this deter you from your goals!

Wow thanx for the info I feel a lot better now. It' just gets frustrating at times. I went back and looked at the food I ate and oddly enough it had a lot of sodium in it. =-)

I don't have a cheat day but I have what I call a yummier than usual meal (because my healthy meals are yummy). Usually this is on Saturday and by my weigh in on Wednesday it's fine. I wouldn't weigh myself after eating a heavier meal.
