Ebay Question

OK, I am a ebay newbie having only bought three things ever. The last time was last week. I bought something on Sunday and paid for it through paypal.

Then on Monday I go back on and note that the seller is now unregistered. Repeated attempts to contact him have resulted in no response.

I opened an inquiry with ebay who also attempted to contact the seller with no success, but I have to wait until mid-week this week before I can escalate the case to the next level. Ebay says that the product is under their buyer protection program. However, I wanted to see if anyone had ever had this same experience and what are the odds that I will get my money back? Not slamming ebay in any way, but I am wondering from other MFP members of their experiences, especially with this buyer protection program.

If you paid through PayPal, you will be insured for it, so don't worry but it will take some time to resolve. EBay will try to sort it out with the vendor, they need to give them the opportunity of sorting it first.

So, short answer is you need to be patient and allow for it go play out through the approprirate Ebay channels. My experience with a dodgy buyer was sorted with us getting our money back, and it was due to the item being not as advertised, the vendor de-registered but it was ok.

    Good luck.

I've never personally gone through this, but this person is a scam obviously. The best you can do is simply go through Ebay to get your money back, I'm really sorry this happened to you :/
A few things you can do to avoid being scammed though, is to make sure the seller isn't based in China. And if they are, check the reviews and the stars on their profile to make sure that the quality of the times they sell are legit.

If they aren't based in china and haven't sold anything before, or already have a horrible reputation on Ebay (ex, a 14% positive feedback percentage) then don't buy from them either.
Again, I'm sorry that this happened! Hopefully things will get straightened out soon!

the main things i look for when i buy something on ebay is:

    * the sellers feedback rating. It has to be at least over 200 (it shows they have been selling for awhile), look for positive feedback

    * their enrollment date (it shows if they just opened an ebay account currently) I stay away from those

Thanks guys. I am just hoping that I get my money back, especially since this person probably didn't have the product to begin with. I don't recall the rating the seller had, but if I ever buy anything from there again - which is probably not going to happen - I'll take into consideration all these variables.

I'd like to go buy this product directly from the company, but I guess to be sure I'll wait to see if I get my money back. It's just a pain to have to wait.

Agreed. Its annoying and makes you anxious, but just wait it out, you should get your money back.
