Eating out at Mexican Place

I have a Bible study group that gets together to eat one night a week at a Mexican place. They already eat on the study and I work around that one. I like hanging out with these guys but cant find a dish that doesnt have a zillion calories in. Any ideas, I eat enough salads during the week so that wont do. Thanks

Share a meal with someone? My friend and I do this all the time!0

Eat before you go to the restaurant and then choose something small off their menu. Since you've already eaten, you won't be overly hungry and tempted to finish everything on your plate. Remember - this isn't a DIET it is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE. You can't go the rest of your life not participating in the things YOU enjoy. One night of eating a small meal with a lot of calories won't kill you. Go. Enjoy yourself. Just eat beforehand to keep the hunger in check (and save you some calories while there). No worries. Don't let this control you or it is too much like a diet.0

I have been getting something a la carte made with chicken and ask them not to cover it in cheese and sour cream, but I cannot resist the chips and salsa0

How about chicken tacos? (I get 3 crispy chicken tacos when we eat at Qdoba Mexican Grill and that comes out to 480 calories...I get them with sour cream but no cheese. Not the same restaurant, but you get the idea.)0

steak tacos with corn tortilla, onion and cilantro its yummy or to be even healthier you can have chicken instead0

Try a grilled chicken breast with tomatilla (sp) sauce and grilled veggies. You can also do fajitas and just not eat the tortilla.0

Fajitas but watch the tortillas. Chicken enchiladas can also be pretty low if they don't have cheese or sour cream. The green sauce is a better choice. And try to eat just half of the plate.
My downfall is always the chips and salsa. . . . .
The other option (which I use with my bunco group--always a high calorie night) is to make sure I eat very lightly all day and get a good workout in.
You can do it, you just have to think, plan ahead, and use a bit of self control!0 -
chicken fajita plate or chicken fajita tacos. a lot of mexican places will let you order one or two tacos, or a la carte. I eat out a lot and since I live in South Texas much of that is Mexican food. I have still managed to lose 14 lbs, with nearly 2 lbs a week. It is doable.0

This is what I do: I pack a bag of celery sticks in my purse to dip in salsa.... mmmm salsa then I eat maybe one or two chips...
I always order fajitas! No tortillas, no cheese, no beans, no rice, but I do get sour cream and guac and the 'salad'. I always ask the waiter to have the chef add extra veggies to my fajitas and if they can go light on the oil. Then I usually make a joke about being chubby and they get it and make my order the way I want. Tada! Mexican! lol0 -
I agree with the other posters who suggested fajitas. We live in a very small town where the only actual restaurant is a really good mexican place. When we go, I order the fajitas minus the beans, rice, and tortillas. Then I just pile the meat and veggies on top of the "salad" that it comes with (lettuce, pico, sour cream, guacamole) and voila.....fairly healthy restaurant meal!0

Ok, I went and had the Chicken Fajita fixed with no oil, ate very few chips with the salsa. I did eat the salsa with my fork. It was very good, felt guilty about it tho. I gained 2 pounds not the 5 like last time. That would be okay if I were in the maintain part of my diet, so no more mexican until I get to 215 pounds, I'm at 234 now.
Thanks for all the ideas they were great.0 -
Tortilla soup, (tortilla strips on the side) is a lower-calorie option.0
