Its boring, doesn't make me feel good like people say, and frustrates me. My biggest problem is its boring...I can't focus on it long enough for it to be effective....I Don't have add or problems focusing on anything. I can not run, four yrs in track made sure I will never do that again.
I guess I am ranting.
Does anyone feel this way?
Or have any suggestions to make exercise better?

Yes! There is someone out there just like me! I hate exercise! I do not reap any of the benefits people rave about. I tried 6 months of 5 days a week; 3 days cardio; 2 days strength. psshhh..it's for the birds0

these two posts about dancing are awesome and true!! just today i danced for just 20 minutes and time flies when you are going crazy haha but also try walking places! if you live close enough to somewhere you usually drive leave the car at home and walk there just for fun.0

I used to feel like you. Really, most of my life. On June 21 I started going to fitness classes at the local Y. Amazingly, I love it! I especially enjoy Zumba, but also enjoy some of the other classes. I agree that it takes some getting used to before you feel good afterword.
Don't be discouraged about not doing "enough to be effective." Even a little bit is better than nothing. You can take a walk outside or dance to your favorite music, or just walk in place while watching tv. I sit in a chair and lift a 3 lb weight while I watch tv.
Good luck!0 -
Try the elliptical, it is NO impact so it won't hurt your knees....Work out with some upbeat music...That's what I do... :flowerforyou:0

Like the others said, it doesn't have to be boring if you find something you like or you can listen to music you like to an exercise you may hate less than whatever you are doing right now that you find boring.0

I used to feel that way... I tried 30DS and didn't really "enjoy" it...but abut 10 days in I started seeing changes.
It wasn't fun. It was hard. I never understood how anyone could consider working out to be enjoyable enough to do all the time.
Now I'm completely different. I see it as a part of my routine because I love the results I'm seeing. Sure some days, Im just not feeling it AT ALL. I'm bored, tired, it's not "fun". But I do it anyway and the I feel even better for having done it when I didn't want to. Yesterday I did a DVD in Surpeme 90 I HATE, then hit the treadmill for 30 min run. My BF called me a freak! LOL. I was not like that 80 days ago.
There's a LOT of different exercises/systems/machines out there. Maybe by trying a few different things, you will find something you can tolerate enough. Give it a chance and suffer through 10-20 days. You may end up changing your mind if you can find something that works for you. For me, doing DVD's like 30DS, that took 30 consistent days worked for me. Maybe it won't work for you, but it's worth a shot. Now I'm doing a 90 day program. Sure it's tough some days, but I really don't want to miss a day.
If not, take the advice, kick on the tunes you love and just boogie it out!0 -
I found when I started that vigorous exercise was physically unpleasant, but it takes time to get the endorphins flooding your system that many talk about. Personally, it took more than a month of serious exercise to get to that point. I'm there now (I love the feeling) and I frankly get as excited about the accomplishments as I do with the activity itself. So how to bridge the gap?
I'd suggest finding something you enjoy, and don't force yourself to do something you don't enjoy. If you like to dance, then dance. Interested in yoga or martial arts? There are lots of DVDs and classes to get you started. Like to be outside? Then find something outdoorsy in your area.
I like to be outside, so I've been cycling since late May. I love the feeling of being outside, of feeling the sun on my body, and the wind in my hair. Snap on my iPod and I can go for more than an hour. I've also started to run because it appeals to me (I've never been a runner), but I'd never stick with it if I had to do a treadmill...I need to be outside to enjoy it.
Find your activity, suck it up for a couple of months, and as you fitness improves so will your enjoyment!0 -
I used to be just like you. Now I don't mind it at all. I don't love it, but I don't mind it. When I go to the gym and work on the elliptical and the stationary bike, I take my kindle or a book and I read and listen to my ipod. It makes time fly. I've just accepted that it's something that I have to do. Good Luck!0

The only thing I hate is cardio except I can stand Arc Trainer in little 10 minute bursts.
I really enjoy lifting weights b/c it doesn't seem like work even though in an hour you burn 200-300 depending on the moves you do.
If you don't have a workout buddy you really need one of those too b/c I used to go elsewhere alone and it sucked.0 -
I hated it the first month or 2 until I got better at it. Then I started to see results and get that endorphin rush they talk about. Now I am addicted but I do agree about getting bored. Cardio longer than 15 mins and I am anxious to get done. So I do spin class, bootcamp or circuits.....10-15 mins High Intensity cardio like sprints followed by a weight circuit and then I do it again. Usually that kind of workout doesnt give you enough time to get bored.0

Keep trying! There has got to be some sort of physical activity you enjoy or can learn to enjoy?
Swimming? Biking? Rowing? team sports? zumba? dance? pilates?
A lot of it has to do with getting in the groove....put on some great music and just get your body moving. Generally, with any exercise the first 5-10 minutes suck...you are loosening up your body, you are beginning to get hot but not sweaty yet...its uncomfortable. You have to get past this and get in the workout zone. Take running for example for me, the first 1/2 mile to 1 mile absolutely suck, my knees ache, my breathing is off, my movements feel weird...but then my body adjusts and I get in the groove and pump out multiple miles and guess what...I enjoy it! Running may not be for you...but find something else that you can at least tolerate and then maybe learn to enjoy. Best of luck!0 -
I completely agree! After six months of actually trying to lose weight/get healthy I still hate it. I guess what it comes down to is hating your unhealthy habits more that you hate exercise.0

Take a walk in a scenic trail if your town has one. I also agree with the Wii Fit plus. I love mine and the games are fun but you are getting a work out in as well. Just get out and have some fun. Act like a kid...go skating, go bowling or something like that. Go swimming, play volleyball. All of those are great ways to work out and have fun.0

Like someone already said try finding something fun to do. I have an Xbox 360 with Kinect bar so I play Dance Central and Kinect Adventures. I also play Your Shape Fitness Evolved but I really hate it. I'm about to break out the DDR soon lol. Haven't played that in a while. Try jumping rope. Remember how much fun jumping rope was as a kid?0

I used to really hate exercising (before I started this, which was almost three weeks ago) but I'm slowly starting to like exercising. I like knowing that I'm struggling because that means that I'm doing something right (haha!) but also I like how I feel after. it's not so much the high from exercising it's just that I'm doing something for my body that's really healthy and it's getting me towards my goal weight.
To help with making it better, I definitely agree with watching tv or listening to really good music. Some of my workout songs aren't so much fast with a great melody, but more of a song that has a great beat that I can do crunches and other things to. And as for tv, I always used to wacth That 70's Show when I would walk/jog on the treadmill and it made the time pass SOOO much.0
