So how might you react if someone (in anger) says "Your time at the gym is a wasted effort becuase you are a fat <fill in the blank>! Why do you even go, you waste my time, the kids time........"
Well this only makes my resolve that much stronger.

I would be crushed if someone said that to me! I'm glad you are strong enough to turn it into a positive.0

if it wasnt a women, punch em in the neck!! if it was a chick, id get away from whoever it is permanetly. how rude?!!!0

Honestly? I would tell them to shut their mouth. I would continue going to the gym, continue working my butt off and eventually I will reach my goal and when I do? Watch out cause I'm gonna tell THEM what I think of their comment then.
Don't let other people's negativity affect YOU. I've learned that weight loss causes a huge amount of negativity in other people for some reason. Don't let it drag you down.0 -
I'm glad you're staying motivated to keep going. There is no call for someone to be so rude to someone who is obviously trying to get healthier. I'm with chefchazz, if this is a woman, get away from whoever this person is, you don't need that kind of negativity and bad attitude around.0

I definitely wouldn't want that person in my life, who needs that? I'm sorry, I think that's awful!0

I would challenge them to a dance off.0

First, I'm sorry someone in your life would say something quite that hurtful. Know that you're doing well and that you're changing your life - it's tough but worthwhile. In the meantime, I have two quotes for you to reflect on...
1. It doesn't matter how slow you go.... you're still lapping everybody on the couch. (author unknown)
2. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. (Eleanor Roosevelt)

Sadly there are often people in your life who will be critical of your weight loss attempts because of their own self-esteem issues. That person could feel threatened or insecure and worry that as you succeed in your weight loss goals, that you'll no longer want them in your life. But rather than be honest about their feelings, they lash out negatively in the hopes it will get you to stop what you are doing. Or they may have a weight issue as well that they've been trying to ignore and now your activity is reminding them that they haven't done anything about their weight issues and they may be feeling self-loathing and guilt, but take it out on you rather than deal with their own issues.
I've had skinny friends try to sabotage me because they enjoyed being surrounded by overweight friends because they thought it made them look better. I've had boyfriends sabotage me because they worried I would lose weight and attract someone better. In both cases, it was their behaviour and not my weight loss that caused me to dump them from my life.
Don't give up and don't let the *kitten* keep you down!!0 -
I am assuming it was a female.. and personally they deserve a punch in the ovaries.. honestly?? at least you're off your butt doing something!! ugh...0

Does this changeyour opinion knowing now the person who made that remark is my wife? Her remark (along with others) were said during a fight. Nonetheless "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. (Eleanor Roosevelt)".
My resolve stands, regardless of who they are or what they say. I have two boys 9 & 6 - I will not impact their life becuase of impacts to mine - hence why loosing weight, getting stronger and being fit is critical to me......and to them.0 -
I would challenge them to a dance off.
ha ha!! This!!!0
