Okay, so this isn't really to do with weightloss so much (although i have seen some related posts about putting on loads of weight when you're away!) but i've been thinking alot about what i want to do at university and love the idea of doing a year in the states! The university i am looking at going to does an exchange year in a few different places around america, with most opportunities at the University of California.
I'm wondering what people's experiences have been like, if it would be worth the extra year, and where to go? Some other placements include:
Columbia University, New York
The University of Illinois
The University of Pennsylvania
Rutgers State University of New Jersey

Any advise is much appreciated! Thanks

I defiantly think it's worth it.. I mean imagine the opportunities that come from this..

My 12 year old niece just got nominated to be an exchange student next summer... she will travel France, Italy and Greece at the age of 12..

I think opportunities like this are not ones to pass up!

Oh and UI is a really nice school!

Come to the University of Connecticut. You'd be going to a great school. It is 2 hours from New York City and 2 hours from Boston. Right in the middle of New Englad. Very pretty here. I did my undergrad there. And we live 5 minutes from there now.

The University of Illinois, has multiple locations. Chicago, Springfield and Urbana-Champaign. I'd definitely do Chicago.

    Columbia would rock though.

I would definitely say do it. It's the opportunity of a life time. I lived in Norway in high school for a summer and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Definitely worth the time. You won't regret it!

thanks for all the replies! I've got plenty more research to do and a long time to decide, but i'm definately really excited by the whole idea of coming to Americaa :D
  • If you have the opportunity to study abroad, definitely take it. I teach at the university level and see a big difference between students who have seen the world and those who have been land-locked. Chicago, Philadelphia, New York....all great ideas. How large of a city do you want to conquer??

i'm from a pretty small city in England, and whilst i love the idea of going to new york, i don't think i'd be able to keep up! Plus the number of places at each university means if i'm lucky enough to get the opportunity to go, i will probably end up at one of the University of California campuses.
