To increase or not to increase that is the question.

I am currently debating on increasing my calorie intake and I want to know what you think.

The Stats:
Age: 21
HT: 62 inches
CW: 139.1
GW: 120-125
Current Calorie intake: 1500
Activity Level: lightly active

I used http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/ to calculate my BMR and it put me @ 1453. Then based on my activity level it gave me the calorie intake I should have for someone weighing 120. Their motto is eating like a thinner you.
Sedentary: 1644
Lightly Active: 1884
Moderately Active: 2124
Very Active: 2363
Extremely Active: 2603

Right now I get around 1300-1500 calories in a day but I'm starting to feel that isn't enough and yes I eat back my exercise calories. This past week I lost 1.6 lbs which is great but I would feel better if I was closer to the 1 lb range. Also I lost the 1.6lbs when I ate crappy 3 out of those 7 days (going over my 1500 calorie allowance). I started a 5K training plan so I'm working out more than I used to during the week which I think can also be accountable for the weight loss. So I think I am more at a moderately active level now. Based off the moderately active level with a 500 calorie deficit it would put me at 1624 calories a day. Do you guys think that this is a reasonable increase? or should I stick to the 1500 calories a day?

Give it a try-and let us know! I went to the site you listed, and it would have me at almost 2000 calories a day, whereas MFP says 1210. But, I'm assuming the real comparison would be net, which for me is closer to 1500. Good luck!!!
  • I agree--try it and see how it goes! If, after a couple of weeks, you aren't progressing as well as you were with your MFP calorie level, then switch back! I'm going to give it a try myself--I've been stuck fora few weeks, and willing to try doing something different! :)
