No carbs is just about impossible - there's carbs in lots of things including healthy vegetables, plus your body does need SOME carbs.

Low, well, depends what you mean by low. I try to keep under 100g a day - that probably doesn't count as a "low carb diet" per se, but I find it works for me.

What's got you interested in this approach?

I just try to eat a 'lower carb' diet. I keep it under 120g/day. Well most days I keep it under 90g/day but aim to be under 120g. I've lost weight with this and find it isimple to stick with. The reason why my ticker is the way it is....is because I'm a binge eater lol. Keeping my carbs at around 90g/day I've lost nearly 20 lbs in 8 weeks so I know it works :)

Bad idea. Eating no carbs means eating no vegetables or fruits, and you'll cut out essential nutrients.

I wouldn't do no carbs. You need some carbs in your food, such as veggies, beans and nuts, because they will give you the fiber your body needs. If you're seriously considering a low carb lifestyle (note that it IS a lifestyle. You will gain weight back if you hop off of it), I suggest reading some information regarding the South beach diet, or the Atkins Lifestyle. Each have websites with free info.

you have to decide if its sustainable for you. No carb is impossible (and I even eat primarily gluten free to say this) its really about picking better carbs over processed junk. Fruits and some veggies are even carbs. Brown rice is a carb but a much healthier choice then pasta. Multi-seed crackers (gluten free) are still technically carbs but much lower then traditional crackers (and higher in other nutrients) dairy even has carbs you just have to choose the better carbs.
  • I am low carb dieting, it is very hard but I have found the best way to do it is to include fruit in your diet. Not canned fruit, but raw. Only fruits straight from the bush/tree...etc...I have found if fruits and veggies are the only carbs I have in my diet that I still lose just as much weight if I were cutting out fruits and veggies altogether. One thing that should be completely forbidden is ANY starchy carbs such as bread/pasta/rice....cut it out completely...it will be hard for about 3 days then you wil stop craving them. I swear if you cut those 3 things out you will watch the pounds melt away.....and no cheating...no croutons or anything you may consider "just a little"

I do low carb (under 30 net carbs a day). For me it is sustainable long term because I don't eat a lot of breads and I get most of my carbs from veggies. When I first switched to it I lost weight fairly quickly. I have a day or two every other week where I eat breads to carb up. Whatever you choose you need to make sure it works for you and you can sustain it without feeling deprived.

I've done 0 carb. You don't need carbs to survive. Your body will change just about anything you eat into glucose (just ask my rising blood sugar that week! :noway: )

I try to stay under 30 carbs/day, and eat really clean. Look into Paleo/Primal lifestyles. They cut out grain, legumes, and soy (all the fluff) and tend to be lower carb, but still rich in vital nutrients.

P.S. My diary is public if you want to take a look.

No carb would be impossible....but there is nothing wrong with low carb as long as you're getting your carbs from GOOD STUFF.
This doesn't mean eating donuts :) I have been eating low carb/high protein for almost 3 years and its works for me.

I changed my nutrient goals to 45% protein, 25% carb, 30% fat ... so I still eat about 80-100g carbs a day, but they are not from white bread, donuts, pie, cake etc.... they are all from fruits/veggies, greek yogurt, protein shakes, quinoa, whole grains etc.

If you do less than 30 a day you'll probably end up in ketosis which I don't think is very health long term. Even Atkins moves you out of that phase at some point -- plus from my experience, if you're ketosis your breat stinks! No thanks :)

Another alternative is one I've been doing the past couple of weeks. It is working in a big way- down six pounds.

I have upped my protein a lot, and still enjoy the good veggies (not potatoes or corn, but pretty much everything else), and fruit, but have cut out breads, pasta, rice, etc., and dairy (milk, yoghurt, etc.) Because I'm a vegetarian I am including some cheese, and a variety of beans. Key is no processed foods. If you wonder why, just watch this video: http://blackgirlsguidetoweightloss.com/food-101/the-chemical-processing-in-your-processed-foods/

This is a lot like the cave-man diet, more so than Adkins, etc. Good luck!

I do this also! I stay away from bread, pasta, rice...but I eat tons of fruits and veggies! I normally stay around 100 carbs or less per day and most of the carbs I get are from fruits and veggies! I have lost 4 pounds in a week so it has worked well for me! You just have to find what works best for you! Good luck!

I do a Primal/Paleo diet, which is basically low-carb because of the exclusion of grains and sugar. (Been doing it for over a year)

I'd really recommend looking into it.

Basically, eat as many veggies as you like, keep fruit intake moderate, and eat meat and seeds.

I love it. Lost about 30 lbs, and am at my goal weight (though, I'm thinking of dropping another 10).
