so i posted a topic on my sodium problems. the wonderful people that read and commented suggested that i bake my own chicken and turkey instead of buying from the deli. well i baked my own turkey breasts and only ate 2 oz, just like i would with my deli meat... there was more sodium in that than the turkey i was buying from the deli. i thought it was supposed to be healthier to bake my own??? suggestions?

I've had problems with my sodium levels too! I baked my own chicken breast just like everyone says. I don't think that is the main way to cut sodium though- but it definitely is more nutritios I think. Think of all the preservatives in deli meat. If you're not bothered by that, you can go to low sodium lunch meat or keep with the regular if it's lower in sodium than the actual at home meats :/ Sodium has been super tricky for me!

How is that possible??? Unless you seasoned it with a lot of salt

i didnt even add in the little salt i seasoned it with... i just chose turkey breast cutlets, and thats what came up.... i didnt search through all of them to see if any of the other entries were different. i was just so frustrated...

@theyoungretiree- i cant stand sodium...argh i am great with calories, carb, fat, and sugar. i feel i scrutinize every little thing to haw much sodium there is.. its aggravating.... but i must say, even though i go over a bit in sodium, i am losing about 21 pounds a week. maybe i should stress out about it so much?

Try looking at the actual package that you purchased. It's possible that whatever entry you used was for something pre-cooked or from a restaurant. I would think that raw poultry that you cook at home would have hardly any sodium in it....

You should manually enter the info on the package that you bought. Your home baked/roasted turkey should be healthier UNLESS it is injected with a salt solution. If it is, it will say so on the package. It's very important that you buy a natural turkey or chicken that hasn't been injected with anything or has any flavor enhancements.

Sodium is def. something you should worry about.

Wait, did you roast a whole turkey breast? You said cutlets? I'm sure those have added sodium, they are actually a processed food. By that I mean, they aren't as close as possible to their original state. I hope this helps. At least maybe for next time.
