Really want to succeed this time!

Well, here I am trying to lose weight again! I have started and stopped so many times over the last eight years since I was in college that I can't keep track any more. This time, I am heavier than I was the day before I delivered my son almost two years ago. I have a little more than 100 lbs that I should lose to be in my target weight range.
I recently found out that a good friend of mine that is extremely overweight had a stroke. He's 34. Scared the crap out of me! Then I found out my mom needs to have back surgery due to a genetic condition passed down to her by her mother, which she has passed down to me. She was my age when her symptoms became exasperated by her weight. She's managed to hold of on surgery for so long because she lost a lot of weight and began exercising every day. Another good friend of mine found out about six months ago that she was pre-diabetic. She lost 30 lbs and has reduced her sugar levels and is out of the red zone. I'm thinking these three instances are signs of what is to come if I don't take care of myself now!
So, I'm here looking for food and exercise tips, and a community going through what I am to provide support. Thanks for looking!

Welcome! I have further to go than you. I've been on MFP for 6 weeks and have, for the first time in years, actually successfully stuck with something. I think that it helps that the "something" is commonsense - eat less, exercise more. The online community is pretty cool and supportive. And the success stories are inspiring. I'm sure you'll do well.0

Welcome to MFP! I am on my third week of using this site. It's so encouraging to see all the success stories! Feel free to add me! I tried this site once before but didn't stick with it, mainly because I lacked friends to motivate me. I hope you love it here...I do! For the first time I feel that this lifestyle change is gonna 'stick' !0
