Wow, I'm blown away by the quick responses from this community to my initial post about measurements of water glasses. I thought I'd throw up an introductory post since I'll be sticking around for a while (seeing as this website/iPhone software is amazing).
I'm a 25 year old single part-time father living in Australia with a 6 year old daughter. Recently I started living with my old man to help him out as a fulltime carer (he has heart problems, lung issues and leg ulcers, poor thing). For most of my career life however I have worked for Google as a top tier specialist. As much of a dream as my career has been for an IT enthusiast it has also been one of the most sedentary.
Currently I am 152kg (335lbs) @ 174cm (5'8") and although I do not have any body image issues (I'm far too happy go lucky), I recently got diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes which gave me quite a shock and a wake up call. I am managing it extremely well on 1000mg of extended release metformin per day. My doctor has prescribed me Duromine (phentermine) 40mg tablets which I am on day three of... I am an extremely organised person and have adopted to take a 'three pronged' approach to my new lifestyle changes. Firstly, medication, secondly, longterm dietary changes and learning how to eat right and being mindful of portion control and lastly, excercise. I signed up on Monday for a local 24hr gym (extremely useful for my sleep patterns). I am also taking multi-v's and extended release vitamins Cs.
Hopefully on a strict 1500 cal/day diet, with three to four 1 hour gym cardio sessions per week (30 min walk, 30 min cycle) and adding in the Duromine, I should be on my way to back to double digits in no time. I actually really love eating right and excercise. I just have to break out of old habits.
Peace out,
Damien

Welcome to MFP Damien! I, too, am a food addict and I really do like to eat healthier and exercise when I'm on a roll. I feel so much better too. I've actually been on here since January but have had a few set backs and really had to focus on what was really important to me...my health, family, life or food? I've been reading a really good book that has really helped me come to some decisions and renewed my commitment to life long weight loss and maintaining that loss. This has been the best site for keeping me on track. People here are awesome and a lot of my friends on here just wouldn't let me quit even when I went MIA for several weeks. They kept messaging me and commenting on my profile letting me know how much they cared and missed me. Isn't that awesome!! So, again I say WELCOME! Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like. I would love to support you along the way! Good luck!0

Fantastic!!! this place is awesome damian
the diary teaches you about food, so calories in them.. to drink lots of water, and choose healthy fresh fruits and vegies! you say your having vitamin C..? how much would you be taking a day mg? cause just by eating a few strawberries, and other fruits, and broccoli, i'm over 100mg aday! is amazing!
i've learned to read lables, i've brought a set of food scales, and i weigh my food, and have correct portions... and i've managed to stay around my calorie goal ( i'm not super strict ), i dont eat low fat food, unless they are the same as the full fat minus the fat ... so with out the fillers, or extra sugar.. all the food i eat is real
i've been doing this for 15 days, and i was 103.5 and on sunday i weighed in at 101.7.. thats 1.8 kg loss!! small but a start also, i'm going for 5kg goals ... so i dont lose heart..
anyways i hope you enjoy it here!!! feel free to add as friend :
all the best!!0 -
