Starvation mode

I know it doesn't happen after one day, but does anyone know how quickly it sets in?

I'm asking because I've haven't been able to eat any solid foods for a few days:grumble: . I've basically living off of yogurt, soup, and spaghettios (not very healthy, i know), anything I can swallow without chewing. I've been too out-of-it to log my foods for a few days thanks to my meds and have only now realized I've only been consuming around 700-800 cals a day. I haven't been active at all (sleeping most of the time) so I know I don't need as many calories as normal, but this is still pretty low and I'm kinda worried about the damage I'm doing to my metabolism.

On the plus side, I didn't go overboard on Thanksgiving!!

I'm going to guess here that it would take at least two weeks or more to set in. I can relate to your dental issues.
My extractions are going to be scheduled for the 18th of December - I have 6 coming out to make room for my dentures, and I haven't even begun to think about what I'll be eating and how to care for both my extractions and my new dentures, not to mention that the meds will be interfering with my desire to exercise.

I wouldn't worry. It takes time to set in. Everyone is different but I would say a few weeks or even a few months of consistently eating too few calories. We're not talking 100 or so calories too few either, I'm talking a lot of calories shy of what your body needs. Hope you're feeling better soon! You MUST be getting tired of spaghetti os

Can you try adding a smoothie or milkshake in there somehow? (homemade of course) That might help bringing up your calories some.
    Hope you feel better soon:flowerforyou:

Yeah, I was going to suggest smoothies! A banana smoothie maybe with some PB mixed in if you like that--loads of claories!

"Starvation mode" isn't giong to set in after just a few days or couple weeks--I think I had put myself into it, and it seemed to take about 4-5 months of consistent under eating and hours on the bike.

That's a relief! Thanks everyone. I will try the smoothies. Anything that was too hot or too cold was hurting my teeth, but I'll give it another try.

Russia: I hope everything goes well for you! I'm having my infected tooth and the wisdom next to it taken out on Wednesday, then I have to work that evening. lol work is going to be interesting because it requires me to talk a lot and I know my mouth is going to swell up.:ohwell:
