I am very out of shape. If I had to say what shape I am in I would just say round. I have been losing weight mostly through diet and have lost about 20 lbs in 6 months. I know to continue to lose and to tone up and get the body I want I need to work out. But I am really out of shape. I can walk on the treadmill at 3.0 mph for about an hour before I am done. My biggest trouble spot is my tummy. Any suggestions to help me move without killing me haha

    Treadmill; less time, more speed.

Read 'New Rules of Lifting for Women'.

    And have some fun.
  • Hey,
Have you tried swimming, its a lot less impactive on the joints and a lot less cardoi needed over running. You only have to swim breast stroke moderatly for an hour 3 times a week and youll see improvement.
Im on the slim fast diet aswell and its working for me!!
Hope this helps and good luck x

I love swimming. When I first started to lose weight I used to swim 3 times a week, aiming to do X number of lengths in X amount of time [e.g. 65 lengths in 1 hr] and then trying to do it quicker and quicker. I absolutely loved it and it was a big challenge but easy on the joints. Also, it tones up every part of your body simultaneously. I was always a bit mortified putting on my swimming costume but I quickly stopped caring when I started seeing results... the benefits of swimming COMPLETELY outweigh the few seconds of embarrassment as you get in to the pool.

    Good luck :)

add some incline to the treadmill and you will burn more without having to go faster. I suck at running so i walked at a 12% incline yesterday and burned as much as i would running.

Getting in shape, like losing weight, is a slow and steady process. Keep at it. You will see gains.

Soon you will start to notice that exercises that had you huffing and puffing no longer have have you out of breath. You will then have to increase the intensity of the exercise.

Like weight loss, the key is sticking to it, and doing it regularly.

The best thing you can do is start walking and work your way up to walking faster, bigger incline, and/or running. . Everyone has to start somewhere. I started walking, then I started intervals where I would run for 3 minutes walk for 2. I started going longer and faster. Now I can run a 5K doing 5-6mph. I NEVER thought I would be able to do it but I have. Set small goals for yourself and build up your stamina. You can do it!
