I've been following a strict diet plan --- and please I'm not posting this here to debate nutrition or diets or whatever --- but I've noticed something during the phase of strictly restricted food intake.. and I thought that even if you don't follow the same diet, you could still benefit from my observation.
Not being able to freely take bites and tastes, or a little bit of something here and there really gives you a realistic perception of what you WOULD HAVE EATTEN if you weren't being disciplined. My family eats very healthy, but we still have the occasional cup of icecream, pizza, chocolate, pasta, etc. Just because *I* am not eatting them things, I am not being a tyrant about not allowing them foods into my home. I have self-control, just because its there doesn't mean I will eat it. Nobody in my family drinks soda, but I have a few bottles in the cabinet incase I have company over. Ok, so you get the point. NOW. You never REALLY notice what you might've eatten, or had a small bite of, until you CANT. Kind of like the "you dont know what you have until its gone" theory. But over the last few weeks, I've gone to my favorite restaurant with my family and drank water while they ate my favorite pizza. I'm normally good for eatting at least 3-4 slices - its my favorite. And, then, I'll usually cut up the kids' slices and eat one of their crusts, or their peperoni when they complain they only wanted cheese, etc. Then if I'm baking cookies for them, I'll eat a scoop of cookie dough and then a few cookies and milk. Even when I'm logging religiously everything I eat - you still don't really SEE IT the same way as when you CAN'T eat it. It's just -- different. It hit me the other day when I thought about all the things I COULDN'T eat on this diet plan and all of the things I WOULD HAVE eatten over the last few weeks - it adds up. It was almost a relief that I didn't eat it. My body felt cleaner in a way. And, I know I normally workout like crazy and probably burn off more calories than I can consume -- but it just AMAZED me how the little bites can really add up over time.
So I was thinking... it wouldn't be a bad idea for someone struggling with their diet to plan out their meals and NOT allow themselves anything not on the list... and after a couple of days, reflect back on what they would've eatten had they not been allowed to do so.. and I bet it will get the momentum going in their weightloss and a boost of confidence in their own discipline. Or maybe it'll do nothing at all and I have been off the cookies for too long and not thinking clearly. Haha

This actually works MUCH better for me than a 'little cheat bite here' and 'little bite there'. I stop even wanting it after a while. I'm an all or nothing gal i guess!0
