Healthier alternative to Peanutbutter?

Farmers actually farm peanuts to clean out the soil, and those peanuts are still used for public consumption. That measn that peanuts are full of toxins!
Almond butter is the best choice. Better for you, great tasting, and much healthier!0 -
I like "Better'n Peanut Butter." If there is a Trader Joe's near you, you may want to try that. It is not cheap, though. Also, I have from some PB lovers that they don't like it at all. At about half the calories of regular PB, it is worth a shot.

There are a lot of things I can avoid, but peanut butter, and especially almond butter, are like alcohol to an alcoholic for me. Just can't touch the stuff without eating a whole jar. That's when it becomes unhealthy for me. Sad but true. Wish there were a substitute for it that had about 10 calories per serving instead of 100.0

There's a brand called Krema at my local Frys. It contains:
PEANUTS
SALT
that is all. what exactly is unhealthy about peanut butter? strange posts here sometimes0 -
As long as you are eating the natural kind without added fats and sugar, or eating so much that you go over your calories, peanut butter is about as healthy as it gets.0

I get freshly ground almond butter @ my local grocery store (winco) - or you can make your own.

All natural peanut butter is just fine!!!! The processed stuff is the danger zone.
I also LOVE Justin's Maple Almond Butter. You can buy a jar or individual packets. It's all natural and I put it on low-calorie pumpkin or banana pancakes...0 -
Try peanut wonder!
Ingredients: Peanuts (as de-fatted peanut flour and natural peanut butter), tapioca syrup, pure water, dehydrated cane juice, rice syrup, vegetable glycerin, soy flour, salt, tapioca starch, natural flavors, paprika & annatto, calcium carbonate, lecithin, vitamins e & c (antioxidants).0 -
Just make your own.
2 cups peanuts
2 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp brown sugar
Throw in food processor… done.0 -

You're more likely to have people believe you if you cite your sources.0 -
I love peanut butter, but i switched to Almond butter and Cashew Butter. My accupuncturist/herbalist told me to stay away from Peanut butter because it slows down weight loss. I am trying to remember the term they used, it was not a pretty term. They also said that oranges and a lot of soy also causes the sludge (or something like that).0

To all those posting "Just eat peanut butter, or What's wrong with Peanut Butter, or Peanut Butter is great", please keep in mind that there is a large population of individuals who have severe allergies or sensitivities making this impossible.
Recommended practices for dietary intake need to be accounted for ALL, and not just a %age of the population.
While we don't know what their reasoning is, the original poster was asking for alternative solutions and it's quite possible that allergies may be a factor (even if it's not stated).0 -
If it is portion control you have an issue with, Jif has premeasured cups of peanut butter call Jif to Go. I use that because I don't like to take time to measure my portions, but still love peanut butter. So far it is only available in original Creamy, but if you're still on track for your calories, it's not bad. I'm down 8 lbs in 2 months, and I've been eating it every day.0

not sure about healthier, but an option is Soy butter or Sunflower butter. My daughter is allergic to peanuts and so this is her alternative. My other daughter who is NOT allergic has tried both and says they taste just like peanut butter.
Same here. Mine is also allergic to soy, so we just use sunbutter exclusively. I'm not sure that it is any healthier, though.0 -
Spitting.
Ohhhhhh... PEAnut butter. Nevermind.0 -
Peanuts are not nuts... They belong to the legume family.....
It's ok in moderation, as long as your overall levels of saturated fat consumed are low. It is high in fat overall...0 -

Personally I stick with the real thing and eat 1 TBSP at a time instead of the 2 TBSP serving on the jar. I buy Skippy natural peanut butter and suggest going with a natural or organic type of peanut butter.0

My favorite too - they also carry it at some of the Super Target stores.0 -
Um, peanuts are not a nut. They're a legume. Most PBs sold in grocery stores have hydrogenated oils, HFCS or some such sugar/sucrose, salt etc. in addition to the ground peanuts. Another name for hydrogenated: trans fats ... I'm sure everyone here is aware of how unhealthy that kind of fat is. There are other butters out there made from actual nuts like walnut, hazelnut (filbert), almond, or fruits like apple, plum, etc.0

Agreed. So gross. Not "better for you".
My peanut butter always has one ingredient: Peanuts. I find it tastes like, well, peanut butter that way. If it has more than peanuts in it, then sure, it's probably not that great for you. Most big brands have added sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oils. They're peanut-flavored oil spreads is what they are.0 -

While that may be true for many people...it is not true for everyone...hence anyone giving nutritional advice needs to be concious and aware as to if given recommendations can be adopted by everyone and not just a select group.
For someone with severe allergies, Peanut butter would be most unhealthy. It is also unhealthy to assume that anyone can consume peanut butter without any complications, regardless of if it is nutritionally sound.
It's about being sensitive to all possible populations.0 -

Natural peanut butter has less sodium and sugar.
Natural PB has less sodium and NO sugar. Personally, I like Smucker's Natural PB Chunky. When you get it (or other natural PB), you will have to stir in the oil when you first open it and then refrigerate it...but its worth it.
I like Jif's Natural peanut butter. You don't have to stir the oil. And... peanuts are a plant food and all plant foods have some degree of natural sugar. Natural peanut butter does not have any added sugar.0 -

It's about being sensitive to all possible populations.
There is sensitivity and then there is being overly sensitive. A person who had this issue, needs to speak up, if that is the case.
Otherwise, health and fitness is such a complicated topic that no one here should be giving anyone any advice.0 -
Farmers actually farm peanuts to clean out the soil, and those peanuts are still used for public consumption. That measn that peanuts are full of toxins!
What garbage...
Farmers user different crops as part of a rotation for many reasons. Some replenish nitrogen, some help combat pests and disease. Peanut crops help mellow out the soil by using fertilizer that has been used on other crops. It does not mean that they are full of toxins...
Farmers plant peanuts because they are a dependable crop, have decent profit margins, and people like them. They don't grow them to remove toxins.0 -
LOVE Trader Joe's organic peanut butter! YUM! I also love their Almond and Sunflower butters.0

Holy unnecessary lecturing Batman!
If someone has an allergy, I think it can be assumed that it would not be wise to consume said product, that pretty much goes without saying.0
