C25K, one hour runner, Hidgon's half marathon & marathon, Pftiz, Daniels, etc. I've said it before and I'll say it again: they are guidelines, not gospel.

All of these are just numbers on a page. They don't know if you were up late the night before. They don't know if your hamstrings are tweaked. They don't know if you are feeling extra great one day.

The world will not end if you run 3 miles when it says to run 5. The world will not end if you run 8 miles when it says to run 6.

Run smart and have fun!

    Right on! I started running without any of these programs, just tried as much as I could every time I was out and focused on doing a bit better each time. When I started, I could barely run half a mile. Now, only four months later, it doesn't seem that bad to run 5. :-)

    Yup!! And after a number of years running, even what was "gospel" before for an individual might be different news now! I never used to run five days a week and now it's no problem.
