Ok, so I want to start by saying I was taught that the only dumb question is the one you don't ask! So... If you were cooking a meal for vegetarian people, can you use chicken broth in the recipe or does that make it a meat dish/non-vegetarian?

Chicken stock cubes have chicken extracts in them.
    Use vegetable stocks instead :)

As a vegetarian, I would be upset to find out that chicken stock was in it. It's great of you to make an effort though, most people brush off us veggies!

That makes it non-vegetarian. Some don't care but if you know they don't eat chicken then don't use it.
  • It makes it non-veggie in my eyes, I wouldn't eat it, but it's best to ask who your cooking for. I know a 'veggie'- for example- who just doesn't eat meat but will eat animal based stock, gelatine and other animal based stuff. Hope that helps!

Anything with chicken broth will make your meal nonvegetarian. I've been a vegetarian for 14 years and the hardest part has been trying to avoid foods with "hidden" animal ingredients, like chicken broth, gelatin, lard, etc. I agree with others that you can substitute vegetable broth - it doesn't really taste all that different in a recipe! And, thanks for asking the question - a lot of people would just assume that if it's not technically meat, it must be vegetarian - so you're very considerate!

That would totally make it non-vegetarian. Use a veggie broth instead and you are good to go!

That is really really considerate of you to ask!!! There is a certain broth on the market - forgot the name, but you can get it at "Whole Paycheck" that is called something like "Un-Chicken broth" & tastes very much like what I remember chicken broth tasted like....
