HRM picking up signal from...?

No matter which room I exercise in, as soon as I get close to the floor, my HRM registers 200+ beats per minute. I have no idea where the signal is coming from. What should I do? I want to measure my HR when I perform pilates, or lift weights. My HRM is about 5 yrs old -should that matter? Do you have this issue with your newer model? I'm planning to replace my older Polar with a newer model anyway.

P.S. I don't have many electronics on -just a lamp or two.

Do you live in a single family home or an apt. or townhouse.... maybe a down stairs neighbor has something that's affecting it?

It's a single family dwelling. Right now, the only electricity running is the frig, stove, lamp and that is pretty much it.

It must be static electricity or something. I don't know...but after 5 years I guess it's done a good job and it's time to upgrade. I just bought a men's Polar FT4 (I liked the color better) off Amazon for $50 and I absolutely love it. Haven't had any problems so far.

I had no idea that women could use the men's version!

Where does the wiring for these run through? Maybe you're getting close to that? Or (I'm guessing here, don't know much about HRMs), could there be an "echo" off the floor throwing it off?
  • Interesting. I wouldn't know how to fix that. Hopefully, a new HRM will not have this issue.
