Lattes Kill... or do they?

I am a coffee addict, and despite weaning myself from needing sugar/syrup in my latte, it still drives my morning cal count up by 130... is anyone out there successfully coexisting with a regular latte habit or have all of you "losers" lost your coffee companions?
:drinker: :noway:

I can still go to starbucks...I just get a coffee with skim or soy and a sugar free syrup if I'm really in the mood, but I think most of them are pretty yucky. I'll usually just use Splenda. I tell them to put in about 1/4 cup coffee or just the bottom of the cup or leave it out entirely and I put it in. A whole cup of fat free milk is only 80-90 calories, so unless you really like milk in your coffee, that will save you a ton.

Haven't ditched the small skinny latte's in the morning, too good and not too bad for you.
  • Splenda now has flavor add-ins for coffee! I have seen hazelnut, mocha, and vanilla. However, I have heard they also have caramel! Yum:tongue:

I go once in a while, but I try to limit myself to once a week. Instead of having a cheat meal, I'm allowed to get whatever I want off the menu at starbucks. I also stop 2x a week for their "perfect oatmeal" which is yummy, low calorie, and oatmeal is GOOD for you!

130 isn't that much... i've worked at Caribou for forever and most the stuff on their menu is horrendous (2-3 DAYS worth of sugar in one drink), but skim lattes aren't that bad. I try to stay away from the dairy all together though and they do serve organic soymilk.

I go to Starbucks about once every two or three months and get a skinny vanilla latte. I love them. But, you're right, it does hit that cal-count up 130! :grumble:

I do love my coffee, though. I love mint chocolate, too, and used to get mint mocha's on a regular basis. But, I found a recipe a while ago for White Hot Mint Mocha Cocoa. The recipe says it's around 105 cal's, but I've cut it down to about 70. It hits the spot for sweet stuff, mint stuff, caffeinated stuff and hot stuff! Hehe

I know it's not a latte, and some people's tummy's may not be able to handle this first thing in the mornin', but here's the recipe:

2 packets of Diet Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate (25 calories per pack)
1 packet of instant coffee (the on-the-go kind; I think I use Taster's Choice; 0 calories)
2 teaspoons Great Value Sugar Free French Vanilla Creamer (powder kind; 20 calories)
12 ounces of water - hot (0 calories)
2 packets of Splenda (0 calories)
1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract (0 calories and also optional . . . without it, it's just a yummy mocha  )

Put the hot chocolate, instant coffee, creamer and splenda in a cup. Slowly add the hot water and stir. Add the 1/8 teaspoon (less or more to taste) peppermint extract.

You can also add some Cool Whip Free on top of it, which will add 15 calories. I usually don't do this.

    Happy drinking! :drinker:

I try to stay away from dairy, so whenever I go to Starbucks I substitute soy milk for regular milk. Less calories and you're also getting protein from the soy milk.

Try a hazelnut soy latte, its yummy and nutty.

I still drink my 124 calorie homemade coffee every day.
    Not giving it up.
    Ever.
(Except for my stomach ulcer, when my doctor asked nicely that I drop it for a week to give the meds a chance to work their magic on my ulcer  )

I love me a grande non-fat latte! I don't add sugar or syrups - weaned off of that stuff a while ago. But the star-bucks was hitting the wallet a bit to hard, so I do homemade now with 1/4 cup of non-fat milk and sprinkling of cinnamon. I grind my own beans (hazelnut from Costco) - so it's fresh and delish (and cheap!)

I make my own coffee each morning, but that's only because I can't justify $3 a day/5-7 days a week.

    My make:
2 cups brewed coffee at home
1 TBSP International Suisse Mocha Powder (in the coffee/tea section)
    2 TBSP Fat Free Creamer

    Total = 33 calories

I even buy the To-Go cups with lids at Costco. It's about $.20 to make my own and walk out the door each morning.

love love LOVE caribou! i wish they had a place out here.. for now, i just settle for the coffee club and have the grounds delivered.

so back on topic.. i go for nonfat lattes.. or a dry cappuccino if i really need a kick in the pants. or if i'm out for the day, i'll plan my day around my favorite drink, but have a tall instead of a grande: double tall non-fat, no-whip peppermint mocha.. mmm :)
