Handheld or Scale Body Fat Analyzer?

I'm looking into getting a body fat analyzer and was wondering if most people prefer the scale with it built in or a hand held mobile model.

Also, how do we feel about Omron as a brand. It's the only brand I'm familiar with from when I used to work for a company that sold fitness equipment years ago.

Regards,
Bruce

I've read that these types of body fat analyzers can give wildly different readings depending upon how hydrated you are. Maybe they've gotten better?

neither of those are really accurate since they use electronic signals which can be affected by your water content that day.

body fat is most accurate when measured in a water submersion tank but thats expensive. The calpier measurement technique is fairly accurate if you have the same person measure under the same conditions (morning, post-bathroom, pre-work out, no eating) each time.

    good luck
  • I have both. I don' t use the scale type because I've heard they are really inaccurate. My hand held is by Orman and I love it. I did the water body fat and compared it with my hand held and it wasn't that far off. My scale...well that was horrible.

I seem to recall that the best time to use a handheld analyzer is first thing in the morning before any food or water after you've used the bathroom which is typically when you have the least amount of hydration in your system. Does that sound right?

I use a very accurate scale that reads it via bare feet at the gym where I go. It is in my trainers officer. I have been using this scale since I started in Jan. It is very accurate.
