Laundry?

i do my laundry in our bathtub. i've been logging it as "cleaning, vigorous effort" it usually takes me about 45 minutes to rinse ring and scrub a normal "load" sometimes longer if there are pants or towels. is this ok? i mean i'm usually sweaty and out of breath when i'm done and my abs feel like i've done a few crunches. so i figure that's a couple calories i burn over my everyday things seeing as how i don't do laundry everyday... it's more like an all day once a week thing. opinions??

I typically don't count any kind of housework towards exercise or calories used. I suppose I'm a purist when it comes to exercise. If it gets your heart rate up and it is intentional (i.e. resistance or cardio) then i count it. Otherwise, it's just everyday life0

Hi,

However, it still burns calories!

I would not count this. You may get sweaty and it may also be a good ab workout, but your heart rate is most likely not elevated enough to burn a significant amount of calories.0

well if i'm sweating and a little out of breath i guess my heart rate would be up. right? and i don't do it but once a week, if i don't just go to my mom's and use her machines.0 -

so if it's not in my activity level i should log it? because it still burns some calories? my activity level is lightly active. i'm not working as much as i had been but i spend most of my days cleaning when i'm not working. but i don't do laundry everyday so it's not in my activity level, it's like extra effort i have to use on top of my activity level.0 -
If you're logging it as housework then it should take in account that you're doing housework. So the calorie burn should be lower then running, as an example, for the same about of time.
I log my work. I'm on my feet, walking or running, moving stretching, lifting. I just log it as fishing. I know what I do is harder then fishing, but it seems get my point across to myself.
Also I don't eat the back calories, as I read many other don't either. I rarely hit my normal calorie consumption goal, always way under.0 -

i always log it as cleaning because i'm cleaning clothes. i usually log it a vigorous, sometimes light, it depends on how much i'm doing and what i'm washing.0 -
My activity level is set at "sedentary" so I count my cleaning minutes for sure! If it exerts more energy than just getting myself through a day at my desk, I count it.
That said, I rarely count anything I do as "vigorous." I count all of my cleaning as light/moderate, although maybe that's just a reflection on my poor cleaning! :P0 -

i have my activity level as lightly active. most of my day is spent cleaning and hubby and i have a very... active... bedroom, so i generally only log anything i see as extra work, laundry being one seeing as how i don't do it everyday. i would log it as light if i wasn't moving "vigorously" and lifting heavy (i actually broke the handles off one basket it was so heavy) baskets of wet laundry. i was just curious to see what others thought about it.0
