Hi Everyone! I hope you all had a great turkey day! I am finding that certain calories in the MFP database are not correct? is it just me, or is anyone else seeing that also? If that is the case, can anyone recommend how to get more accurate calories? for example a hardboiled egg, it has as 40 calories each, 80 calories as two. But I looked in most calorie counters and it says a hardboiled egg is about 70-75 calories.

When I add my 2 eggs srambled with water...I get 140. Not sure where you are looking...maybe double check it or try a few.
  • Yes, there certainly are a lot of incorrect calorie counts, often for the same exact thing. Knowing a thing or two about calories helps me decide if I trust MFP, but I usually read labels or check elsewhere before adding new items. One egg, yolk and all, is always between 70-90 calories, so I would suggest that you check different sources. If you find something erroneous on this site, you can always edit.

Really the only way your calories will be 100% is if you actually put in the nutrition facts yourself for every food.

well every egg brand is going to be different, also depending on the size of the egg. For example, western family's large eggs are 70 calories as are most brands of large eggs I buy. However, lucerne's extra large eggs are 80 calories each. I just make sure to enter the actual brand of food I'm using rather than using the amount for "scrambled" or "omlette" because that entry wouldn't know how I made my omlette or scrambled egg right? So if I used western family's eggs to make a scrambled breakfast, I'd enter in the eggs as western family x 2 eggs and enter in the tsp of olive oil i used to coat the pan with separately.

does that make sense? basically enter the brands you use for whatever foods you're making.

I just entered a Nature Valley Ganola bar and I know it has 170 calories, cause I'm staring at the package, but the first one I added only had 160. I searched again and found one with my exact carlorie count. I say add your own OR search until you find the one you are looking for. Some of the names and lables are back ward or listed with the brand first...keep searching!! You'll find one close or right on.
