i did my food diary for the day and am still below my calorie goal but went over my carb goal. Is that bad? How do I get in the calories I need without going over on my carbs more?

If you feel satiated, then it's not any big concern. If you feel too hungry and have cravings, then you can tip the balance more in favor of lean protein than carbs.

Yup, the carb allowance that MFP gives you is a on the high side for most people's metabolisms anyway. So you probably want to avoid going over on those! Try eating more protein. I would consider MFP's carb number as a maximum that you don't want to exceed, and the protein number as a minimum that you want to reach or go over.

Carbs give you quick bursts of energy. So it's good to eat carbs before a workout. But protein gives you a slow, steady burn of energy. So if you are sitting around in front of a computer or TV, limit your carbs during those times and eat protein for your energy instead. Also, protein is a little harder to digest and will fill you up for longer.

Any meats, chicken, fish, shrimp will give you protein calories without carbs (although, watch what sauces & seasonings you use). A lot of cheeses, too.

    Good luck!
