Hi Everyone: I am Nancy and started my weight loss journey one year ago in July. I have been sedentary since 2003 and over the years, gained about 70 pounds. I have a long list of medical issues, but once I reached 310 pounds, the high blood pressure and cholesterol problems kicked in and it scared me. Add attending my 35th High School Reunion, and I decided I had to do something. So, for the third time, I decided to pursue Weight Loss Surgery. The first two time, I had problems getting insurance approval, but the third time did the trick and I found a doctor who made me feel very comfortable with my decision. In my prior attempts, the only choice was the RNY By-Pass, but this time, I was eligible to have the Lap Band covered by my insurance.
My surgery was performed on 10/1/2010. At the same time, a very large hernia was also performed, so my band was not filled until January 2011. By June, I had lost 50 pounds. However, I had to have a serious ear operation on 7/8/2011 and had to have the band deflated until last week and during that time, I gained 5 pounds. So, currently, I am down 44 pounds, at 266 and am using this opportunity to re-start my habits.
I am here at MyFitnessPal because the food log I had been using has been unavailable for some reason and with me finding a renewed desire to log my food, I did not want to take a chance at losing the momentum by waiting for the other log to come back. I think that I will like the social aspect of this tool.
One of the things I have NOT done much about is exercise. At the beginning, I was very excited about it, but an injury to my left rotator cuff and a flare up of old back problems has kept me sore and reluctant to try again. I am also REALLY exhausted all of the time, so I have problem motivating myself out of bed. My initial goal is to get back on a healthier eating path and hopefully, will add the exercise. I am also seeing a long list of doctors I have started to see to try to work on the two main issues....depression and chronic fatigue and I am receiving physical therapy, so I am on the right track, I hope.
Since I am a Lap Band patient, I have different nutritional goals than the program suggests. I have a daily requirement of 80-100 grams of protein; no more than 100 grams of carbs and no more than 13 grams of suger per any serving. There are also some foods that I have trouble eating: rice, bread and anything bulky that clogs up when I eat it.
I am especially interested in finding others who are starting exercise from a long term COMPLETELY sedentary lifestyle....less than just a desk job....I have been sleeping all day and most of the night for many years.
Hope to meet some new friends!!:flowerforyou:
