Checking in from Alaska, scale question

Hello there, I'm CMGeek from Alaska, I'm the fluffy stay at home mom of two little girls. This year they will both be in school full time so I'm working on shedding the weight I put on 10 years ago when I moved up here. I've joined a local workout studio and have started tracking my food.

My scale question is what brand is the best, which would you recommend? I currently have a healthometer and it works okay, reads high by about 3 lbs, which isn't horrible just inconvenient. So I bought a Taylor that is supposed to measure body fat and body water but it reads 30 pounds heavy and so I'd rather return it.

I need suggestions so I don't keep buying and returning as that gets rather old.

Thanks in advance!

  • My question is how do you know it reads high? sounds like you don't need a scale if you know that! =)

I don't think it really matters, as long as the number keeps going down, who cares what the reading on the scale is, right? Pick one and make that "your scale".. only count weigh ins on your scale. Over time, the number becomes less important and you start judging more by the clothes and the stuff you see in the mirror. Hope this helps!

yeah, another alaskan. I have a taylor scale I got from Freds, it doesn't do the whole water weight thing, when you think about it though, how would it know that stuff just by you stepping on it? I would say stay simple and read reviews on Amazon. I usually take 3 readings when I way in to get a good idea.

Not sure about scale though...Mine came from Fred Meyer, does the job but isn't fancy.

Yeah I'm just sticking with the one that I've had for a while.

The water/fat thing is done in the same manor as the heart rate stuff on exercise equipment sort of with a slight electric current. Its not that huge of a deal to me anyways so I'm just gonna stick with what has worked mostly for me in the past. My cheap normal digital scale lol

I know it reads high because on a properly calibrated scale at the doctor office and fully clothed I'm 3 lbs lighter, :)

Hi Alaskans, is there anyone who lives in Wasilla or Palmer? I'm looking for someone to run with once a week.

I'm a refugee from Juneau, now in Bend, OR. Today it's sunny. 88º and smoky from the fires. But we had lots of smoke this time of year up there, too. I am going to lose 22 lbs. for good this time.

I don't know where my Xtra Tufs are! And I haven't worn my Goretex rain jacket since I left.
