Calculating calories from speed and time running?

Hey guys,

So today was my first time actually tracking what my speed was during my jog (had to use distance and time... too broke for anything fun and techy) and I figured out that I ran an avg speed of 3.9mph, for 47mins. This is a lot less than the 5.0mph which is in the tracker already, so I was wondering what a closer estimate to how much I burned would be. Does anyone know how to calculate the calories burned?

  • There's very brisk walking 4.0 mph in the tracker. Use that!

Ok, so using the Brisk Walking choice from the tracker gives a loss of 282. On the calories pr hour site, I couldn't choose a speed as low as 6... 8 was the lowest I could go :( Oh well, I can make that a goal :) That site looks really good for info in general though! On a speed of 8km, the site said I lost 455cals... the health status site gave an estimate of 398 cals burned based on my weight, time spent doing it and the fact that it was jogging. hmmm no idea which to use :(
