Question for Informed Body Builders

I know you can't give an exact number, but what is a reasonable time frame for building one pound of muscle? (for both a male and a female if you know). I've gotten conflicting information -- everything from 1 week to 1 month. I know that immediate gain after bodybuilding is likely water retention, but I would like to know (and please only answer if you actually know and not if you're just repeating what everyone else says) what a reasonable expectation for muscle gain would be. Thanks.

For women, a reasonable amount is 1/2 pound a month. Beginners can build a little more.0
