What strategies does everyone use to resist the urge, to say no to that second helping, the chocolate biscuit, the fast food... (the diet demons  ....!)

I've developed a few, and thought perhaps we could share different ideas as mine dont work perfectly or all the time!!!

1. Chewing gum, as soon as I've finished eating I start chewing.
2. Making myself wait, normally I look at my watch and decide that if in 30 minutes I still want that piece of chocolate then I'll eat, by that stage sometimes I've realised I'm full or I really dont want it!
3. Going for a walk after eating dinner, makes me conscious of how much I eat if I have to walk around and feel all the food in my stomach
4. Walking to the fruit aisle and buying two large apples, apples really fill me up and I dont feel like the unhealthy choices afterwards!
5. If I'm going to cheat I make sure I do it before 5pm and not at home - as thats the place and time I'll probably screw up my calories if I eat something I shouldn't...

  • I went 4 months without eating chocolate (July-Mid November), I didn't find it hard but, I guess I had no real need to eat chocolate and thats the thing, you just have to think to yourself that chocolate is not the only snack/desert option in the world, there are plenty of other choices. There are going to be plenty of chances to eat chocolate in the future, so going without it isn't going to harm you, because the health benefits really aren't as good as people like to say.

Do something with your hands read a book, make something, paint your nails.
Handcuff yourself to a lamppost and swallow the key.
    Do the gardening
    Go on a bike ride
    Go ice skating/ skiing/ tubing/ play tennis/ badminton/ squash/ or any other sport
If your having something, don't buy extra that way you cannot be tempted.

Or if you count calories just allow your self to eat chocolate as long as your within your limit for the day, so if you cut back like 50 calories on each meal or something that chocolate bar will be more acceptable to eat, possibly

Thank God chocolate is not an issue with me.

Now BREAD is a different story.

I have found Pepperidge Farms Litestyle Oatmeal Bread. 45 calories a slice. I can have my bread and eat it too!.

I also love to eat at restaraunts. I order a salad as soon as I sit down, or a bowl of clear soup. I now ask the waiter to bring my friend her rolls on a plate, that way there is no basket calling my name from the middle of the table
